Massive Car insurance costs?

Worryingly after reading this I thought I'd get some quotes even though I'm not due for renewal until early September, and the results are ridiculous. According to this my insurance is almost going to be 3x more when renewal comes around!

Now this is obviously insane and way more of an increase than others are seeing. The only reason I can think for this is that they are counting the fact someone crashed into my last car while it was parked and unattended against me.

My insurance refused to insure me after a non-fault accident, they didn't even get involved, causing mine to be a pain in the arse.

We changed our Fiat 500 1.2 litre for a Kia Picanto 2 1.0 litre same power, four door instead of two, £10k instead of £1.5k, 72 plate instead of 10 plate and our insurance went up by £10. Disgusting behaviour.

Mine renews next month and the best deal is from my current insurer (Aviva) which is still a 50% increase, £400 to £600. Some insurers wanted £1200 :(

It should be illegal for them to punish you for something that was impossible to have been your fault!
Where you park/How you park can make you more liable to be hit by someone, they'll almost certainly have data to show people that tend to have incidents like that are probably more likely to have another one in the future which is why they'll bump your premium. (They also basically have free rein to rob us so as a profit based business why wouldn't they :o)

Agreed, however I was parked in a proper bay in a residents only parking street, so this should be taken into account instead of a blanket increase without any consideration. Fair enough if someone plonked their car in a stupid place on a road somewhere!

My 640D renewal was up from £600/year to £900!

Luckily I'd added it to a multi car insurance when I insured the Alphard last December. I paid £300 last December to insure the Alphard and then just paid £300 to cover the 640D for the rest of the year. Worked out well, for the next 6 months a least! :)

When did you set your renewal date?

Try one 3 wks from now. If its a good deal it maybe worth cancelling your current one and renewing now.

Inflation, crap supply chains, people forgetting how to drive after covid, nice excuse to slip some extra profit in or more likely a little bit of everything.
Standard of driving is deffo terrible. I've seen different people champing labe with checking almost cause 3 accidents in the last week, 2 of which they almost hit me and I had to slam on.

It is definitely worth ringing back your insurance company on renewal offer. Tescos dropped down to competitive with comparison search engines pretty much straight away when I renewed a few days back.

Didn't stop it going up though. My '19 Merc C200 went up by about 15%.

However, non-comparison site insurance companies (i.e Directline) were miles out, was getting quotes of 600-700+ where my renewal is £480.

Looks like Hastings are competitive in the search engines. Again, thats what I based my tescos renewel on, beyond the top 5 being £480->£520 there was then a massive jump to 600-700+. These were based on quotes 3-4 weeks before renewal was due.

My non fault accident pushed my insurance up. The car was parked in a parking spot and I was standing in the post office. The best part was I had a phone call within 20 minutes of it happening asking did I have whip lass. I have to admit I did turn round a little quick when I heard the bang but I am not so sure that would make a valid clam

You are now insured on a £10,000 car instead of a £1500 car and it went up by £10 and you think that's "disgusting behaviour"? I don't understand?
Edit: unless u meant u are now in a £1.5k car instead of a £10k car? If so then yeah i see your point.

I was pleasantly surprised with all the doom and gloom lately with price rises across the board.

Have just given up my company car and moved to an allowance so had to buy my own insurance for the first time in a long time.. Cupra Formentor VZ2 2.0 310 at 41 with 0 no claims and business use over 15k came in at £550.

Was very happy with that!

My renewal from admiral came in at nearly £800. I only paid £500 last year. No accidents, nothing has changed. Absolutely mental increase. Called them and they had a feeble go at 'inflationary costs', didn't really have anything when I pointed out that inflation ain't at 60%!
Requoted elsewhere and got it for £400

Not as bad as yours but my renewal just came through and it's a 30% increase, with no changes in circumstances :-/

The worst bit is I've just done my usual comparison check with the Meerkats to haggle my current insurers down with....and there's nothing cheaper on the site! Never known that before....and it's not like it's quoting top insurers either, I've only heard of 2 of the companies out of the top 10 quotes.
