Masterchef: The Professionals

We were just talking about this at work. An utter disgrace the two they put through. The young lad with stars on his necy should have certainly got through. It's as if the previous rounds counted for absolutely nothing. Roux has revealed he is clearly only interested in the Frenchman winning, which is a huge shame. Just goes to show Wallace is nothing more than a lardh grocer who likes butter & sugar. He certainly has no say in who goes though

Masterchef is that time in the week where we can ignore that we had beans on toast for dinner and become all-knowledgeable food critics and incredibly fussy gastronomic snobs.

My thoughts on last nights episode:

1) Lentils i'm sure are lovely but they look too dark, indistinguishable textured and generally like some form of horrid spawn.

2) MRjnr at one point gave a perfectly innocent little pannacotta a very pervy squeeze.

3) Jon from Wales has a beard just so you know where his face ends and his neck starts. Only a man as fat as he would attempt to put a sponge pudding inside a pie.

4) I wish they would use the word 'sauce' and stop saying 'emulsion', 'hydrogenised xxxxx' or 'basting-aqua'.

5) I can't help but see Charles Campion as a well-mannered and articulate Peter Griffin.

Charles Campion
I really dislike that fat ****. I know he probably just puts it on for the telly, but if he's that condescending and pedantic in real life I swear I want to humiliate him in public.

Not sure what to make of last night's show. Some of the chefs made some terrible mistakes, particularly the two that went out. I don't like the girl much (and neither did Monica), but she doesn't break under pressure. It is a strong group of chefs this week so the decision must have been very difficult for them.

Past rounds do count for little, it's mainly judged on a round by round basis, therefore it was totally correct choice.

I still don't think the French bloke should have got through. He has no flair or imagination imo. Past rounds have shown him to buckle under the pressure, and if Roux just wanted a frenchman to cook him french dishes, he may as well have just stayed in his own restaurant!

But past rounds mean nothing. The other two made huge mistakes and were by far the worse on the day.

Not sure if you've watched the australian version. But they appeared to make some bad choices. Because it's based on the round. But actually generally the good cooks have stayed at the same level where the poorer cooks have got better and surpassed them.

I agree that past rounds mean nothing, and for me the show is the worse for it. I can't remember the bloke with the stars on his neck making any horrible mistakes. Certainly his dessert wasn't as 'flashy' as it should have been, but his main course was one of the best.

that's the crux of it really isn't it.

You're only as good as the last dish you've served and even if you've been flawless throughout the competition, if you have a poor round (especially in the later stages) you're finished.

The girl who went through last night should have gone out on Monday but she's improved with every single dish. The army bloke was fantastic all the way through until this round and then he screwed it up.

I guess it's just the way it goes.

One thing I have learnt from MS:TP is that you should never ever attempt a soufflé in a cooking competition.

Or a chocolate fondant. Unless you get it right, which is a complete gamble using equipment that isn't your own, it's your route directly to the exit :D

YES!

The guy with a french background - is MRJr putting people through who he thinks will fit into his kitchen or who he thinks have huge potential? All that lad did was cook some french classics very well, and also made a few mistakes. Don't think Shaun should have gone through, personally I didn't think he had the potential that Chris had and he made such a mess by trying to squeeze so many components onto a plate

Of course it matters. He keeps dominating Greg to put him through just because he wants to have his babies. This makes a mockery of the competition if more talented competitors are being sacrificed in his place.

I think he'll be out fairly soon. MRJr will actually want to have babies with the young girl from the other week. He'll soon forget about that guy when he sees some young skirt in the kitchen :p

In all seriousness though, there are still quite a few chefs in the competition and I think he'll be weeded out fairly quickly. He's not been adventurous enough and unless he steps things up a bit he'll be out. Personally, I think it's only the mistakes of the two that were ousted yesterday that kept him in the competition.

I've promised to make a fish dish for my girlfriends family that they've never had before, that Sole Veronique looks (the second one, anyway) and sounds fantastic. Though I'm not sure I could pull it off...

If I do, I will include pictures. Either from what I serve, or from a small test on my own. I want something that will challenge me and is slightly unusual. I imagine serving grapes with dinner will blow their sheltered minds.

Burnt Meringue DISASTER last night!

Why oh why would you not address that in some manner before serving - even a messy dish would be salvagable if the flavours were delicious!

That young chap (Josh?) looks very promising. Ursula bombed somewhat...I was quite confused after the initial skills test. They seemed to love her despite spending half the time giving her loads of tips .

Were they the biggest damn pigeons you ever saw last night or what? I have never seen them that big before or that colour (said the vicar to the choir).
