Matched betting - who's done it and who's good at it? (No Referrals)

£100~ I just did the starter offers, can't say I enjoyed it but its a good thing to know if I'm ever struggling.

I've only done Totesport, Stan James and BetFred so far and the events don't finish until tomorrow night. Add on a few days getting the free bets/withdrawals etc and it becomes a bit tedious.

I'll try it for the month (paid £17.99 to PA) and see what kind of money it makes.

I assume you make more at the start due to more offers being available or are new deals quite abundant?

It is tedious, the 32red was the most fun one as you get 10 free spins and get to keep the winnings without turning it over. The offers do dry up i've heard but you get some reload offers. I did one on betfair yesterday bet £5 on casino and get it back if you lose.

I can see how the first 1k or so can be done quite easily within a month but to maintain that month in month out they must be doing long hours and using their freebets on high odds and gave a pretty healthy bankroll.

Bookies are happy for this to go on, they know sooner or later the house always wins. Greed will get in the way and the punter is going to get tempted to not match the bet to make more money and turn into a bonfied gambler.

Also matched betting threads on the Internet is good for the bookmaker as it introduces betting for people who are not conventional gamblers it makes it seem like a investment rather than betting and a lot will do it wrong and lose money.

Based on above comments, op made £350 between Christmas and may. Albeit just casually. I can tell you that you can make passive income online by better means.

I have an affiliate website that brings in £200 a month. I literally do nothing other than keep the WordPress site updated

if you don't match the bets (but you're only playing for promotional offers etc..) then you're still +EV, in fact you give up some value by matching the bet (crossing the spread/paying commission on an exchange)

obviously not matching the bets leads to lots of variance but in the long run it is still a +EV proposition

nice. If you've got the free time there is a lot more to be earned from that sort of thing, particularly people running good social media pages who managed to get a bunch 'likes'/followers and are doing regular updates... 'tips' pages etc... AFAIK that is a bit harder to do for free these days on facebook etc..

Well with match betting you're covering both sides so you will definately win, you just have to make sure you make a greater return than your cover bet. But with a one way bet you're gambling.

If you're only doing one way bets then you'll get fewer free bets. You have to lose money with the bookie for them to entice you with free bets.

No bookie is just going to give you a free stream of free bets to keep betting ad infinitum.

So you either cease or play with your moeny and gamble.

care to share more on this social media thing? I don't like social media - dont have any profiles. I think it's a major major time suck. it takes a long time and a lot of value "giving" to get people to follow you. definately not passive income. I like websites more,.

Over time you will make money at bookies by matched betting. You're taking odds that are level with or better than the market, plus gaining free bets that will sometimes win - so you're betting with an advantage. It's not possible to lose at bookies in the long run whilst remaining profitable.

The bookie doesn't know that you're matching a bet, but it does know that you're value betting (by taking the best odds and only betting when there's a promo). From the bookie's perspective there's not really a difference, and if they catch you they'll gub you just the same.

Just done a Paddy Power freespins offer - span through 1000 spins and ended up £35 in profit after the qualifying spins and 50 x £1 free spins to come on Monday - could make a good chunk of money from this one!

Any limits on the spin value?

1000 spins will take quite a while (and could be expensive). :p

Min is 20p, so got to burn through £200 to get £50 in free spins. A tad risky.

there isn't much more to share, you've pointed out the drawbacks already and these days it would be a lot harder to gain visibility for your gambling related facebook page, I think there are also issues with some gambling sites not allowing facebook pages wrt affiliates these days etc.. It is also much harder for people to grow a page these days - facebook wants money....

I know what matched betting is and it is still all technically gambling regardless. You get more variance not matching and you get a slightly higher expected value. I've already pointed this out in the post you've quoted.

For obvious reasons people are quite happy to give up most of that variance in return for giving up a small amount of expected value by hedging their bets at an exchange.

Yup - key to wagering is max lines, min bet - so in this case 1000 spins @ 20p a spin.

Depositing £20 should be enough to get 1000 spins. If you bust out before hitting 1000 spins you SHOULD make another deposit but it's your choice.

For example, I've just down a WIlliam hill offer - wager £25 for £7.50 bonus and the bonus needs to be wagered x10 before withdrawl. I deposited £10, Broke even on wagering, did £1.25 spins using the bonus, 4th spin in got a bonus round that netted £61 then span remaining bonus wagering at .25 a spin - £64 total profit - chuffed with that smile :D Took me 40 mins total - nearly £100 per hour - I can live with that :p

Other times you'll be down on wagering and the bonus will get you nothing - but the value is in the long term - the more offers you do then the hgher return you have. When matched betting you need to learn to shrug off the individual losses - by the time you're doing casino offers you should be playing with "free bet" winnings anyway - so you're not losing "real money" anyway.

I had an email from William Hill casino last night, for 20 free spins (40x turnover) I made £7~ from the 20 free spins and then did £1 spins, I managed to get the bonus game on the giant game, I let Mrs Tosno choose 3 volcanoes, she only selected the best two volcanoes straight away and unlocked all of them and got the jackpot of £30 something, I managed to take out £20 real money by the time the turnover ended :D
