Through work I travel a fair bit around the LSE region but also to other parts of the country fairly regularly.

Owing to the diverse nature and broad geographic of OcUK members I'd be quite interested in hearing what "friendly" or generic words you use towards other people either in or out of work, out during the day, in the street anyway etc...

Personally, I vary from, mate, matey, dude and buddy. Some friends of mine choose the word pal and bud. Clearly some of my friends just call me **** or something like that :D However, that's not what I'm curious about.

Clearly there will be difference if the person is female, so I guess luv or love comes into play too.

It'd be interesting to see what terms people have around OcUK.

I'll create a multiple choice poll as it's probably too difficult for a person to choose just one.

I use 'buddy' and 'man' a fair bit, and 'bird' for the ladies. It used to be 'babe', but I picked up 'bird' from one of the girls I used to live with

Mate is probably most commonly used for me, but often use matey, buddy, dude. Love normally if female.

To close friends it becomes a lot murkier as often use insults as greetings in jest, to what end i have no idea.

Mate normally, although I sometimes slip back to my Plymouth roots and say "alrite bey!!" (reserved for fellow Janners)
