Mattresses - I need knowledge

That's a £250 mattress, is non-turnable and it doesn't even say how many springs it contains?. I'd look forward to some uncomfortable nights if I were you.

each to their own I guess - both myself and the missus are happy so far, still well within the 90 day return period. Tried about 15 mattress's from 4 different shops ranging from £100 to £800 and this was the best we tried.

That's all I can do when buying is try various ones, and buy what felt best, price is irrelevant. What else can I do?

Well trying them in store is a bit pointless - a 5 minute lay down (and that's pushing it) isn't going to tell you much, if anything. A car seat or a sofa feels good for a 5 minute nap but I wouldn't want to sleep on one every night.

Really you should be looking for pocket sprung at a minimum which that isn't, a firmness rating (or spring count) that matches your weight and preference, and personally I'd always go for a turnable mattress as you'll get more life and comfort out of it.

There's loads of impartial info on www.factory-beds-direct.co.uk if that was a genuine question rather than rhetorical.

After a lot of research a couple of years ago I went for the kingsize version of the "Monaco" by "La Romantica" for a little under £600. We have found it to be extremely comfortable and great quality.

I did consider a similar one from factory-beds-direct, but their Latex mattress is more expensive and only single sided, unlike the Monaco which is double sided and is therefore turnable and should last longer.

These guys are great. I've had the Origins Latex King-size for 2-3 years.

We were very tempted to go for that one after trying out some pocket sprung with a latex top layer but decided to go for just a pocket from them in the end.

However if that turns out to be not so good for us then I think the latex one will be the next one to try :)

Tried many of the VI spring ones and only found one we liked given the small time to try them out, one we're buying is comparable and a fair bit cheaper.

The Origins Pocket 1500? That's what we have in our room and it's very comfortable. I just wish you could sleep on it bare because the cashmere top is SO soft.

On that note, you'll need some extra deep mattress covers/protectors and we got ours from John Lewis and Dunelm Mill. Would only recommend John Lewis's though.

bit of a drama queen. I and my mrs quite happily sleep on a cheap ikea mattress and have done for at least 6 years...

Just giving advice, when you're going to be spending 15+ years (131,000 hours) on something, why not spend £500 instead of £250 to get something MUCH better? It's one thing that's silly to skimp on; not only will you end up paying the same amount if not more over the same period of time anyway but it could also be detrimental to your health.

And there's people complaining about Ikea mattresses here... on a computer forum: http://forums.overclockers.co.uk/showthread.php?t=18569954

Selekt0r, how have you found the mattress now you've had it for a little while? I'm considering the Monaco myself. Thanks! :D

Mate go to ikea, they have all their ranges of Mattress on display, plus some of them are even cut away so you can see what they look like inside. You can lie on them and see how they feel etc, definitely recommend going there :)

Sorry must have missed this first time round, hah well as with most things we kept thinking that the next model up was only a few quid more and ended up with the Artisan Naturals with firm springs.

Had it 6 months or so now and been good so far.

Left getting the sheets etc to the other half who ended up getting some from Dunelm I think, not their brand though forget which they are but have been nice so far.

I love our memoryfoam mattress.

Have a Pocket sprung mattress, & you will never go back to a spring mattress.

Best of both worlds!

Ours has pocket sprung on one side and memory foam on the other. The memory foam is for the winter (to keep warm) when its cold and the pocket side is to keep cool when sleeping in the summer :D

Seems a bit dodgy that site. Why are they comparing a Miracoil 3 mattress with a pocket sprung mattress and saying the miracoil is trying to mimic a pocket sprung mattress? Silentnight make pocket sprung mattresses as well and they are under £200 for a single, so they should have used one of them for the comparison. Seems like they are just trying to con people who don't know any better.
