I agree. We just got the Silentnight 1350 pocket sprung which was mentioned as alternative to the bed mentioned in the second post.

It's so much better than a spring mattress and the memory foam one it replaced (albeit one that probably cost £300 not £1000+ - served us for the last 5 years).

I bought mines from JL, own branded, and spent £2k on it. Glad I did, had it for few years now and it is one of the best mattresses I have slept on. With frequent rotations still feels the same as day 1.

I am definitely on board with the school of thought that you spend loads of time on a bed, which is why I also have goose down pillows/duvet, and high TC bed sheets.

Makes a big difference IMO.
 
I got a pocket sprung mattress with a thin layer of memory foam. Very happy with it.

I got a whole bed with drawers and headboard for about 800 from carpetright - peeps really overpay for this stuff.

True, but the price difference is not insignificant. I've sent them an email asking for advice so it'll be interesting to hear what they have to say.

So confused. Need a new mattress, don't have any back problems or anything but would love a firm mattress all the same. What are the benefits of each non coil mattresses and pocket sprung mattresses?
 
funny, I just went down to Dreams yesterday and bought a new mattress, as my back went again this week and the mattress I had is cack so I was desperate for a new one

ending up getting the "Buckingham" they say its FIRM in store, but online its orthopaedic !
pocket spring with 2000 springs, felt realy nice when I tested it and others out. On offer currently too
 
We got a Viscool one from Bensons. Really comfy.

My bit of advice. Don't stop with just the mattress. Get some new cotton sheets, make sure they are deep divan ones as a fair few folk don't know they exist, also get a new quilt. I got a 9+4 for our house, it's an Earlys of Wintry duck down, we haven't used the 9 tog yet as the 4 is really warm even sleeping with the window open! Also get some new bed covers.

Treat yourselves! You spend half you life in bed!.. (At least the wife does anyway!)
 
Well... I've just splurged £1085 on a King-size mattress over at John Ryan by Design (AKA Factory-Beds) and wanted to pop by to blame some of you lot for this extravagance! The first lot I was looking at elsewhere were in the region of £300!

The website is full of information and its less than polished design coupled with the company's willingness to answer questions makes them seem much more believable in terms of their claims than a more polished one from a 'top brand name'. In essence I believe I've payed for a top quality item without paying a 'brand' premium so I'm happy... Now I just hope it lives up to expectation...
