Mattresses - I need knowledge

How was your experience with the mattress from Bensons?

My experience is only that of a person I used to work with who was an ex-manager of a Bensons branch, and his warnings were pretty much if you buy anything from them, good luck.

Why would I be subtle when someone is pending a large sum of money and putting their health conditions on that as well? We aren't talking about a photo of someones kid here, it's an item you buy, there are no feeling to be hurt.

Your post was appreciated - no nut-punch noticed.
As I said - I wasn't buying blind and we'd saved Bensons for last (we'd already done John Lewis and a couple of local independents), but was recommended the iGel from a few chaps with similar health issues.

Glad I lost patience with the sales guy, as it saved me enough cash to pay for the kitchen bits we were going to finance (got a full rip-out & renovation, as well as upstairs bathroom starting on the 23rd).

Seems like you got a great deal, and I hope it helps you sleep well for many years to come. Nothing worth try hard sales people who do not listen to a jot of what you say or ask for. :)

You have followed a profile I am more than familiar with and I will now leave you alone.

Do me an even bigger favour put me on ignore then you never have to reply or see anything i post again, ta.

Update - went to bed early (about 9-ish).
My wife said she popped her head in at 9:20 and I was out for the count! (Usually takes me a couple of hours to settle and relax enough to finally sleep).
Slept straight through til 07:30 (Let the Dog Out For A Wee Alarm).

Fingers crossed it continues...

Sounds good then, nothing better than getting a full restful night sleep. My cat woke my up at 07:05 this morning wanting to come in, hah. :)

I am currently arranging to return my John Ryan Artisan naturals mattress, I keep waking up with either lower back or even pain on my side if I side sleep. I have tried a few different toppers without much luck and now I am not sure what to do...

When I was on holiday we had a Beautyrest in a random hotel for a bit and they were really comfy.

Alternatively I wonder if the technically lower quality but potentially softer origins mattress may be better?

Any thoughts? A bit stumped.

ViSpring mattresses seem well reviewed

I’ve got the origins 1000 and it gives me really bad back ache and it’s sagged. I’d avoid personally.

Even with our new mattress, we've been finding it a bit too firm.
So we bought a foam topper, a 5cm one from Panda.
Must say, for the few days we've had it, it's a lot better, hope it stays that way, as sometimes I find new things help, but then my back goes bad again.

Admittedly I have not followed this thread or all the posts.

Wife and I just bought our first bed here in the UK and well, the mattress really sucks. We’re now considering just spending proper money on a really decent one. What are the recommended brands these days and where does one go to find a good one? Dreams?

There are lots of variety when it comes to mattresses tbh so worth doing a bit of basic research first on the different types e.g. memory foam, latex etc. I'm naturally a hot sleeper so I've got a Sealy mattress that has an inbuilt latex topper.

Most people say John Ryan, but as with everything, one size doesn't fit all so to speak.

I had to buy a foam topper as mine wasn't as comfy as everyone makes out, and it caused me shoulder issues.

We had a Sealy Posturpedic Geltex that served us well for 8 years, recently replaced with an iGel 4000 (Benson's own, top of the range). Can honestly say the iGel is the most comfortable sleep I've had in years, as someone with severe medical issues. My only complaint is that it's so damned heavy to changed the bedding on (and I needed to spend £££ on 18 inch deep super king sheets)

Any recommendations or advice for a mattress for a 2 year old.

Moving from a cot to his first single bed.

Got the bed frame just need a mattress for it 190 X 90 size.
IKEA - just make sure you double-check sizes. We bought EU Single Beds (200x90) but accidentally ordered UK single mattresses**, meaning pillows, teddies, tablets & literally everything else drops down the 10cm gap

(**We ordered them for the new house, but didn't realise the error until I built the beds once the delayed carpets were finally down, so too late to exchange).

Our three have these with bamboo mattress protectors (less "sweaty" than the cheap pvc lined versions). Our girls (7 & 10) find them comfy, but our son (almost 13, nearly 6ft tall) has started to complain about his feet dangling off the end.

If you're not near an IKEA, they do deliver to your local big Tescos
