I keep swaying between the Asus Maximus v Gene and the Asrock Z77 FATAL1TY Professional-M, my heart says Gene but my brain says the bang for the buck lies with Asrock, what is a girl to do?
ASUS MVG only way!!!
Which Trident X do you have?? I am presuming your sig shows improved timings.
Already got it, setup and running a 2500K @ 5GHz with 16GB Samsung Green ram at 2133MHz 9-10-10-24 1T @ 1.5v. I can even run the ram at 2400MHz (almost unheard of on Sandy Bridge), but that needs relaxed timings which make it bench slower than 2133MHz.You need any help with getting the best out of the board when you get it let me know.
Well, the C14 is meant to have better clearance than the D14, and my D14 fits standard ram fine.Would a Noctua NH-C14 fit okay on the MVG, would there be clearance for standard ram without any crazy memory heatsinks?

Do you have standard or PWN fans plugged into the CPU Fan slot? The two CPU headers only work properly with the 4 pin PWN type.can anyone explain cpu fan speeds for me please ? - see below - I've suddenly managed to drop 6-7C off my Ivy load temps ... but don't understand what the mobo is trying to do:
I'm officially confused .... the motherboard DOES seem to be affecting the fan speed -
top - is smart mode, bottom rpm fix. Note reported rpm (orange dot ?) seems lower than the requested speed ? Then when you change to Fixed RPM mode - you suddenly hear the cpu fans spin up notably .... and cpu temps drop a lot too ....
2nd note - in both smart mode and fixed rpm mode - the reported fan speeds (not shown in screenshots) are the same ... 1100rpm - but you can quite clearly hear the cpu fans spin up when yo move from smart mode to fixed rpm. Any ideas whats going on please ?
