Im getting a tad peeved now, I just cant get an answer from either maxtor/seagate about a faulty drive I have here

Has anybody rma'd stuff recently? im stuck because the online warranty check claims my drive is now out of warranty and it should have loads left...

I just RMA a 13 month old Maxtor to Seagate @ Coventry to-day. Had a big problem getting the online service to recognise the drives name and had to use their tech support in Eire to get the proper reference number. I think if the online service claims yours is out of warranty then you've got a problem cos it won't validate the online RMA, try their tech support as you can submit a request via e-mail.

Do you have the number for the tech support in ireland m8? I have managed to get some response from maxtor and they are telling me the drive is still in warranty until the 23rd of November 2007, but I managed to get the s/n wrong and they need me to scan the drive so they can check it out

No sorry no phone number but the e-mail address is [email protected].
If you want to search for a number the heading on the e-mail is Customer Support, Maxtor Ireland Ltd.

I had trouble with the drives model number, there was'nt one! it turned out to be the first part of the TLA# on the label.
Best of luck.

I got problems, seagate stepped in and claimed my drive is oem. well the thing was bought from ocuk as oem and they insist the warranty is ok.

Im getting a bit ragged off here :(
EDIT: at this rate I wont be buying bare drives again

I did'nt think it made any difference, unless they mean make the claim via OcUK? I think my drive is oem it came as part of an insurance claim when one of my rigs was struck buy lightning! (not directly) the insurance company via a third party replaced all the bits that were damaged . Stick in there and insist that if its in warranty its their problem not yours.

At last Ive got somewhere :D

They had to over-ride the system and create an rma for me, the drive is covered by warranty like I said all along

All I have to do is send it to coventry and wait for a replacement :D

I just got an e-mail from Seagate Holland telling me thay had the drive.

I guess they get collected at a central depot by UPS Coventry and

forwarded by them, the SCS in the address stands for Supply Chain Solutions

(just googled UPS-SCS).

@Electroblaster.

Read through the packaging instructions as they are quite specific that if not packaged according to Seagate standards warranty may be void. Don't know how strict they are though.

Im lucky, I found a seagate hard drive box in the shed with all the big foam inserts intact. I put the maxtor drive in an anti static bag, then sealed everything up tight. I bought a barracuda 250gb some time ago and I assume it came in this seagate box as I cant remember where it came from lol

Well long as they get it intact and send me a new one im not fussed... Hey I was wondering, do you reckon they would send out a seagate drive instead of a maxtor? seeing as they now own maxtor they could phase out the maxtor tooling and stuff, bit like what maxtor did to Quantum

I dont care as long as the send something, I expect it'll be the cheapest solution & its bound to be a recondition drive, not new.

Its the 1st Maxtor I've ever had & the only HDD thats ever died on me! I'm getting desperate as my E6400 is running on an old Fujitsu 6GB PATA that I had lying around, and it does'nt like it!!

OUCH lol

I got a core-duo D820 here, first time using the new intel socket design. Had to stick an 160gb barracuda in to get everything running, no way im waiting for them lot at seagate to get things done lol

And the drive will defo be reconditioned, no doubt about it.
