I don't see the problem with it, plenty of forums have Like/Thanks/Funny buttons, AVF use these and its perfectly fine. If anything at least a Thanks button would surely be better than having to post a thank you post.

I wouldn't mind a 'thanks' button but i don't see the need of a like button to highlight the circle jerk of classic anti-right/left/migrant opinions except to reduce the number of people quoting a post with +1 or agree

I'm not a great fan of enabling it here but sometimes there are posts that I don't really have a reply to but want to react to - not often enough to really make it worth having working likes though.

Some forums has taken it to the extreme, just about every emoji, thanks, hugs, love hearts, stars, dislike, thumbs down, thumbs up, rainbows, sad, useful... You name it. Each post is full of all these reactions at the bottom of each forum post.

May we have a poll? ;)

1. Like button
2. Thanks button
3. Like button on trial basis.
4. Thanks button on trial basis.
5. No change

The new version of XenForo due out probably this month has post reaction (or theres an add on for XF1), completely customisable so you can have whatever the admin wants as post feedback.

Out of the box it it has:

Like
Love
Haha
Wow
Sad
Angry

On a site like this where people are often helping people out or getting advice then a 'Thanks' could be useful, or an 'Agree' for discussions.

I like the idea of:

Like
Love
Thanks
Funny
Agree
Informative

Frequently I would like to react/rate funny or useful posts without having to create a whole new post with a single smiley face which can end up adding a load of fluff to a thread, especially if it's an older thread. Not everyone in the thread needs to see that I found something useful or funny, but it's nice for the person who contributed that content to get feedback.

You could even have a fun reaction, like 'Geek' or 'Nerd' for really technical posts considering there's a load of computer boffins on here :D Well, a few anyway, or so I hear, in amongst the GD rabble ;)

No, I don't think so. I can count the number of times I've wanted to use a 'like' button on the fingers of one hand. In each case, I've used this button instead which I think works just as well.
