Mazda Rx-8 What to look for when buying ??

New sig time.

Ohhh dear Mike.

Oh dear why?

There is the S2K and some super cars and that is about it?

The point is that in response to the post I was replying to that 99.9% of engines do not rev to 9k RPM, and certainly nothing but the S2K even remotely close to the leagues of the RX8.

That wasn't the point at all and completely irrelevant. It's not like this is an argument over the merits of 9k RPM.

Person A said: Not being able to rev to 9K RPM is annoying when driving a piston engine.
Person B said: Since when could you not?

To demonstrate my point about the number of piston engines that rev to 9k RPM, I asked him to name them.

Relatively speaking you are more likely to drive a piston engined vehicle which can rev to or beyond 9,000 than an RX8.

So if you drive a car for 9,000RPM you can drive an RX8 with a rotary, or a choice of piston engined vehicles. If that was your brief, what does it matter how "few" piston 9,000RPM capable engines there are....you would pick them specifically.

You come across like not having air condition is annoying whereas the point you are making is like not having turbo anti-lag is annoying. If you want that - You get it, not expect it.

Quite frankly not being able to rev to 9000rpm is pretty annoying in a piston engine as is the need to change cam belts, look after headgaskets, so on and so on..
only 9000rpm...Seems Boring

People aren't actually being serious by having a go at Mike's 9k comment, are they? It seems to me that it was absolutely painfully he was talking about the number of 'ordinary' production cars that will rev to 9000RPM out of the factory and the point is that very, very few actually will. Bringing bikes into the discussion is nothing short of retarded. Seriously.

He said "Name 1 production piston engine that can rev to 9,000" as if none could. They can.

Nuff said.

Well no, that's not exactly what he said, be fair.

He said 'name some' not 'name one', though the tone of his post came across in much the same manner.

I think his point fell flat on it's face but it's unfair to misquote him to try and further twist the knife.

Whereas the Rotary engine is found in what UK market production cars in recent times?

Oh, one car.

To be fair only Mazda make Wankel engined cars whereas anybody can use a normal engine, but you do have a good point, their currently used in only 1 of 8 cars Mazda makes (however it could be argued that only the RX-8/MX-5 are suitable for rotary engines anyway).
