MCU to "Refocus” and Disney sinking faster than the Titanic (Starwars is dead Marvel is dead)

We just have to endure AI written scripts for the next 20 years, until handwritten scripts and stories becomes the fad..
all that's going to do is kill hollywood that much quicker. It's already on its knees right now because they've essentially blackballed experienced show runners in favour of what are essentially diversity hires. Don't get me wrong, I'm not against a diverse working environment but at least make sure those people belong in the office and have life experience to draw from.

Skeleton crew is actually quite good, but squarely aimed at kids and tweens.

However I'm an adult and thoroughly enjoying it.

It's not Oscar worthy and is certainly not mandalorian or andor, I can't see it adding hugely to the star wars universe but it's only a few episodes in.

The above said though, I really liked Kenobi series and latterly Ashoka and even bobba fett, though the bobba fett one needed more grit and oopmph
Boba ws...fine, it was fine but I really wish they'd had the b*ll*cks to just recast temuera and make it a little more of boba and a little bit less Ming na wen (but if they really felt the need to, give Ming her own show, I would have loved that) - fundamentally, I think if you were going to do a show called the mandalorian, it should have been about the mandalorian we were thinking about instead of a bait and switch. I'm not upset with the first two seasons, to be clear...I just think a brother that pulls his arse out of a bloody sarlacc pit deserves more than a bit part in his own show.

Sonic has a staggered international release and the article did state that Worldwide box office should go into Disney favour.
Cost double to make as well (although given its Disney its probably closer to 300m rather than 200m)
Don’t forget the number of theatres Disney have booked and wrapped up in deals.

Just watched Moana 2....

And it's was a pretty huge disappointment for me.

Bland forgettable songs and a lacklustre plot that never seemed to get going.

Another swing and miss for Disney.

Decided to check out Disney Plus as I've been considering it for some time... I really didn't want to go for the £129 full term contract even if it's a "cheaper" deal for premium as I really don't like being restrained by a long term contract I might not like. So I went for the monthly!

Overall it's rather expensive for 12 months, something like £150+? But anyway after watching Skeleton crew and checking out all the classics ( Sword in the Stone ;) ) I was umming and arring over going to £129.

Annoyingly though, it wont start till next billing as I've already paid, and yet again it's still bloody expensive in one go . Already have Crunchyroll and Netflix. Amazon was bleep

alleged production budget of around 250 to 300 million, marketing is easily in the 200 million. Theatre screening cut from tickets come to around 40%, and it's currently about to bow out at 720 million dollarydoos my friend. Inside out 2 closed on 1.7 billion, deadpool and wolverine closed on 1.3 billion. By what reasonable metric that Disney is concerned with would you not consider Moana 2 a failure?
It's added $240 million and about to become the third highest grossing movie of 2024 since you posted this doozy.

;)

Turns out Disney plus is only profitable because of ESPN!!

In its most recent earnings report, Disney’s streaming unit (Disney+, Hulu and ESPN+) generated a quarterly profit of $47 million. It marked the first time Disney’s direct-to-consumer unit was profitable. When ESPN+ is not included, Disney recorded a loss of $19 million.

Keep on eye on eBay/MM. Samsung gave away 12mos free a while back and there are still vouchers kicking about

Grrr that eldergeek, he's such a meanie! I'll show him! What will I call it when I have my ammo! I know what, I'll call it a doozie, THAT'LL show him! yeah! I might have some mcdonalds chicken nuggies as a reward! :D

I was trying to tell you that the (currently $960 million) is not all profit, and that the metric for a success depends on what it earns. You're ignoring that, I don't know what to tell you. You have a good night.

Disney will always print money on a sequel to a massive film. Moana was brilliant and Moana 2 was always going to make bank unless it reviewed absolutely terribly. The issue is that people are very quickly checking out once a franchise has shown its decline. It took a good while for Marvels decline to really set in despite a raft of very mediocre films. They either won't make a third Moana or its going to have to be excellent to pull people back in.

I'm quite surprised, and tempted to wonder if people are just Star Wars weary?

I mean the original film was a massive success, but only really because there had never been anything like it before. It almost defined a new genre. But they have beaten that horse to death.

After some of the recent efforts I almost didn't watch Skeleton Crew, and to be honest while Skeleton Crew is a step in the right direction it still has a lot of flaws. From conversations at work it seems like the recent efforts of certain individuals involved has killed off Star Wars to an entire younger generation.
