Me Again...I Can't Decide on a Car..

Not sure what year or miles yours had on it, but my 2011 DCT does considerably better than 21mpg. If I was doing those miles at that speed I would expect to return around 28/30mpg.

I average between 25/27 per tank on a 60 mile daily commute of mainly A/B roads with mixed 40 and NSL. A friend used to do the same trip in his 56 330i SE and used to get around 33/35 from what I recall.

With personal usage I still see 23mpg.

Your DCT has 1 extra gear than my manual and the official figures from BMW have it around 3mpg higher on average than the manual. Plus I have an upgraded exhaust on mine, which may or may not make a difference.

If your getting the Jag make sure it has the Xenons as the standard headlights are utterly useless. The sports interior is a very good option to get.

Portfolio adds the suede cloth headlining and the bowers and Wilkins system as standard and different wheels. The extended warranty is also damn expensive at over 1000 a year.

Oh and tyre pressure monitoring system.

My Dad has the 2.7 and to be honest it's still pretty good. Not as powerful or economical as the 3.0 but at the right price they are a good buy.

Think the 2.7 got about 40mpg when my dad had it. Amazing that when he part ex for the new XF that he only got about £12k. Heck of a lot of money for the car and the ride was noticeably better than the XF. :)

Threw the ball out of the park today. Went for a Honda Civic EX.

Decided that any car I get is going to depreciate loads with the amount of miles I do, so I might as well go for something cheap, reliable and has enough comfort to get me to and from work. Will keep this most likely for the foreseeable future and look at running a second car alongside it maybe in a years time.

Shook on £8680 with 2 years Honda warranty inc AA roadside assistance, 2 new tyres and a few things tidied up inside the car. Not a bad deal for a main dealer EX.

a lot of money for the car and quite a departure given what you were looking at but I guess you're paying for the dealer services and warranty. Mine (57 ex 75k now) has been great so far and with the map feels significantly more flexible than the standard car. Given you're coming from something vastly more powerful I'm not sure id bother with this though. I'll find it hard to go back to a car with lower spec than the ex civic now

I dont really mind though. I have thought a lot about it and as long as it will carry my mountain bike, get me good, reliable mpg to and from work, thats all I really want. The rest of the money is going on the bank until the end of the year after my wedding. My fiancée can learn how to drive in it and its a good all round car. Plus my insurance is ridiculous now that I live in a town centre, literally doubled for my M3.
I think its not a bad price considering its from a main dealer. Most other EX spec Civics close by are a similar price. I found one in Slough that was newer and cheaper, but it was a dog.

You'll get the bike in fine I've had my road bike in the back loads of times, seats down with front wheel still on or you can flip the seat bases up and put it across the back minus the front wheel, I never bother doigmng that though.

Mine is still right as a drum as were the others I looked at so if the other one seemed a bit rough round the edges it must have had a very very hard life. I still find it an impressive all round, if slightly characterless car

Sounds a sensible move. The M3s do seem to have dropped in value lately, i guess fuel prices arent helping

BMW only quoted 31MPG on the 330ci (E46), Pretty unusual to beat the official figures.

I wish people would go and understand how these official figures are measured.

Funny i'm going the other way, have my 2010 Civic Si diesel up for sale (£3k more than yours but yours is better specced) and i'm thinking of getting another BMW Z4M.

I know, but given my car history it wont be long before I am back in something more interesting. Just need the sensible hat on for the time being.

I give it a month at the most. :D

To just think for a second, you could have been driving around in something like this: :p

Seems expensive for a 5 year old Civic, but hope you enjoy it. I remember driving one of these for a bit when they first came out - you will need a very light foot to get any decent mpg out of it.

Book figures are very optimistic as with most cars nowadays, i get about 46-47mpg on a mixed 14 mile drive to work (through the city centre, bit of 40mph and 50mph A road and a 70mpg dual carriageway).

I'm much the same, on my weekly commute (i'd guess 60% motorway 40% mixed speed roads) over about 22 miles each way I average anywhere between 47 and 52mpg. Have seen high 50's on a very long run.
