Me new baby (TV)

Here's a couple of my Sony S2010 displaying windows. The Samsung and Sony are both good in VGA mode as they offer 1:1 mapping, and it's a 26" screen as well so it should give a fair idea of what you could expect. I do think that 2-3 metres away could be pushing it though unless larger icons/text are used.

*********UPDATE REVIEW************

Review:

To be honest it’s more of an opinion on the screen I have used for a week.

Most importantly this screen can be had for £575 delivered (froogle is your friend).

Picture quality:

• Freeview: (built in)

We all know that if you stick your face right up to an LCD screen and watch a standard definition picture you’re going to be disappointed. However in the real world I sit 5 foot away from the screen whilst watching TV programmes and the picture depending on the broadcast is very nice to say the least. I’m not going to say it blows me away as that’s impossible and most people say this to justify their purchase.

• PC: (VGA)

I have the PC at the TV’s default computer resolution (1360:768) and this is a crystal clear picture that did “blow me away”. Surfing is a joy and the only game I played was Tiger woods 2005 and it looked the business.
The only downside so far (and I need to fiddle more) blue texted can have a slight glowing tinge to it, it’s not awful but noticeable all the same. The last test was a DVD film and watched 20 minutes of “the matrix” which was long enough for me to decide that it was great quality and a joy to view.

• Xbox360:

I have my xbox360 connected to the TV via component leads (joy tech £12 job) and this has impressed me the most about the screen. Brilliant colours, sharp text and no noticeable blearing thanks to the 8ms response time. Games are a joy to play in their native widescreen productions and I’ve chosen to play at 1080i over 720p but that’s just personal preference. And lastly playing a DVD film through the xbox360 I feel is even better picture wise than viewing it on my pc.

• Sound

No messing here. “nearly” all LCD TV’s sound is adequate at best and this screen is no exception. It has 10 watts total output- whoopee doo but lets not forget the reality of the situation and that’s connecting the TV to amp or hi-fi. In my case just a standard hi-fi and the sound is perfect for me. It also has optical out ;)

That’s my personal experience/view of my new TV so far and if your considering buying it I can recommend it and for £575 for a 26” beast like this you’d be silly not to. Lastly I would like to say I spent far to long picking this LCD TV as like everyone else I wanted the perfect solution but I’m here to tell you one doesn’t exist as all TV’s will have their plus and minus and we will only see “near” perfection when all TV signals are broadcast in HD so until then chill out and buy yourself a nice TV.

That does look pretty fantastic I'll agree!

Top notch. When i said i'll be lookin from 2-3m ill also be having a 37" panel which will be much larger.

You can get a Toshiba 37WL66 for well under a grand if you look around, and you can go for the even better 42WLT66 which does 1080p for just a shade over £1300 :)

Go on you know you want to :p

Something about using a PC on a big screen 28"+ that makes you giggle like a schoolgirl (had a 32" LCD) How's the internal scaler (read a few complaints of sammy scalers)

I don't think the 42WLT66 does 1080p? look on av forums.

If you're sitting 2m-3m away I would not buy a 37", 1366x768 is too low, I was about that distance and 32" 1366x768 fine, can't see pixels..bigger screen and you would.

lol 37" seems crazy.
the 32" can be had for £800 delivered ;)
movingtables - I had a beer tonight with a mate of mine who works at ***ry's, and he said: "The Samsung is a great set but...

...The black trim gets really dirty with finger prints, smears etc!"

For me that wouldn't be a problem, because once it's up on the wall and switched on I doubt I'll have much need to touch it? Apart from the odd dusting maybe :D

I'm going down there tomorrow anyway to have a close look at both the Sammy and the Sony in-store ;)

I want to know for sure what I'm getting by the end of the week!

Hmmm ok , It surely can't be that bad? This will be used for playing movies etc which would benefit from the larger screen? Theres a thread about some guy with a 720p 60" plasma im sure that would have a lot of pixellation sitting close up but from what I have seen in showrooms, 37" just gives a larger picture really.

Hey all,
I have the 40" version of this and can say it is also of great quality. No dead pixels on mine which was very lucky.

Inbuilt speakers are rubbish, but optical link into my audio setup is fine.

I have a problem with the freeview where it locks on certain channels and takes an age to skip up and down, its really annoying sometimes.

The black surround doesnt mark that badly and seems to get no dust at all on the screen, it keep pretty clean to be honest.

PC looks great, massive!!!

Xbox 360 looks great too.

Standard TV is awful aswell.

If you need any questions answering or pics, let me know.

Cheers
Rico

You'll need an AV Amplifier, those have optical (and coaxial) inputs so yes it'll work. Just set digital audio output from the device, and choose which input on the AV amplifier..

Why don't you connect your xbox to the amp as well ?

well this is where im confusing myself.
surely if there is an optical out from the tv to the amp the xbox360 sound should come through anyway ?

Haven't you already got all the equipment to try it with? Unless you want to save on a optical cable or your amp lacks multiple optical outputs I would just connect the x360 straight to the amp. Should save some hassle although you will have to change amp settings when you want to use the xbox.
