Mechwarrior Online. Yes, really :)

I've played it on and off a bit, it's pretty fun :) Though I personally enjoyed Hawken more as I'm more of a twitch shooter kind of guy (played a lot of Quake etc back in the day). Sadly though I think both games have their flaws that stop them being truly competitive games.

Last time I played MWO I was sporting a Catapult with dual ERPPC... fun times :) I hear they've nerfed that and the gauss cannons since though...

I haven't played for a few months. Still have my 15 mechs getting dusty in their hangars. I still love my DDC, and Jenners. I may have to see how things have gone with all the clan stuff coming in soon. It hasn't been the same for me since they killed quad AC2 Jagers. I miss my dakka dakka.

But yeah, the devs are doing what they can to sell any piece of crap they can o you without fixing any of the broken issues like the phantom heat, stupid hill climbing mechanic issues, and the meta builds that keep popping up.

I think I signed up ages ago to the newsletter but totally forgot and never received anything :(

Just watched some videos and this looks like it could be worth a download :)
The system requirements look really low as well.

Just patched up and had a few games. Not much has changed since I last played except the addition of some music at he round start and end. I do like the newest map though. Big improvement on the others in terms of gameplay.

loads more mechs have been released since beta and game play has improved, more game modes and maps. More on the way

Should get a group together ;)

I started playing this with a couple of mates in last few days. I'm really enjoying it. It helps to play with a couple of MechWarrior players who have put a lot of hours in so can show me the basics and advise on best mech types/weapon use and configuration. The matches are really quick, on average 5 mins so for me it's perfect to jump on and have a quick blast without having to leave mid match.

Still not sure what mech type to buy to start with, using the trial mechs at the moment to get credits up. I prefer the fast med/light mechs. Getting on well with the Spider and Cicada.

I haven't played anywhere near us much as I used to, but I used to have a really fitted out TAG-equipped Raven and I used to love it, my account bugged at one point though and I lost a LOT of hard earned credits I'd earned over a few weeks.

Loved that Raven at the time though, I'd got it kitted out so it was fast, had more survivability than most small mechs at the time, and could still hurt, but I'd run rings around other mechs and keep them tagged so the people I was playing with unleashed LRM hell on my targets :)

Not much fond of the addition of 3rd person mode myself. I think that was a mistake.

The guys who have taken me under their wing have said 3rd person is noob mode so I've started on 1st person. You get that drone thing behind you on 3rd person and can see it a mile off. I haven't seen many players using 3rd person in the matches I've been in so far.

I would recommend a Jager build to start with. They're quite good all-rounders. Fast with an XL in them, but carry a lot of tonnage. I have a Firebrand with 2 UAC5s and 6ML that is ghood fun. The UAC5s are good for punishing anyone who steps out of cover at range, or to pop heads down when you need to move, and the 6ML can pump out damage quickly at close range alongside the UAC5s. or you can go twin AC20 for quick strafes, but it's a bit old hat.

Really you want a DDC. So expensive, and you'll want to elite it as well, but it's a great mech. Just takes such a beating. I have a nice RS set up as well that can alpha 2ML, 1 LL, AC20, and 3 SRM6 3 times without overheating. It is a serious brawler :D

To start with though, I say Jenner JR7-F and put 6ML on it. I did 1000 dmg in one round by just popping MLs into big assault's backs while they were busy. Speed is forgiving.

this

you have to level up mechs in the pilot tree to get elite. 3 different varients at a time

totally gutted!! for a founder pack...played for months only to be continually disapointed.

Can't even log in anymore

no way i would sort that out and get back in the game ;)

i'm a founder as well, which sucks as i feel we were screwed over as well.

but if you havent played in a very long time, there was a reset so you should have all your mc credits back!!

that means you can buy all the special mechs that you like but i would wait until the clan mechs in the summer.

i wasted mine

I've been playing this for a couple of days now and am really struggling to get in to it, I can remember playing Mech Warrior 3 and 4 and loving those... especially online... but this just doesn't feel right to me for some reason.....

I think the Mechs look rubbish too... Generic looking!
