Have you visited the Aztecs yet :)

You need to build blooms (think thats their name) then grab an army stick em in a boat and head west, cogs and such like won't let you go that way.

Im about 80 turns in so far. Playing as the Spanish as they have decent cavalry. But my god are the French annoying. One thing that is bugging me, is that a lot of the artillery seems bugged. ie, when you tell them to fire somewhere, they will often acknowledge the command, but still just sit there.

Can someone tell me, do your troops get muddy and blooded up when they are fighting? I always hated that about Rome, that your troops would look pristine after fighting a huge battle and murdering thousands!

I like to get close up and haven't noticed my troops getting dirty (ooer!). The detail is otherwise excellent, though.

The only bug I've noticed so far is an annoying one with missile troops where they go for enemy missile troops no matter who you target with them. It's very annoying.

Other than that, I love the fact you can build multiple units in one turn - it really allows you to crank out the units when you really need them - and not plan 10 years into the future in case you want to attack somewhere!

I only finished playing RTW about 4 months ago and I'm well into this game so far. However, the Pope gets on my nerves - REALLY gets on my nerves. However, I've finished capturing the entire British Isles and now I'm busy slaughtering the French without him messing me around. Just had one of those great battles where my one army decimated two full stacks of Frenchies.....bliss (well, apart from about 500 dead ;)).

Inquisitors, however, are a nightmare. I'm busy training up assassins (killing foreign princesses and diplomates :)) to take them out.

Only on about turn 65 and I'm really looking forward to delving further into this one. Particularly raising a massive Crusade (I mean like four or five massive armies) and heading off to Jerusalem for some killing on a disgusting large scale :)

Got it running at 1440x900, full graphics, with no issues either. I might just change unit size to massive for next time 'round :)

Just a heads up there is a patch on the way to erradicate some of the initial bugs - it should be available tonight or tomorrow morning. What we really need of course is the Total Realism modification - but this is likely to be a good few months away yet before we get a playable version.

For those interested in the full game, it is MUCH better than the demo. CA announced that the demo was using code that was 3 months old.

Well in the demo i noticed that the entire person changed to a pinkish red colour when they stabbed someone or got stabbed :p

IIRC if someone gets hit in the leg with an arrow or strike of a sword it slows that single unit down and makes him less mobile, same as getting hit in the arm will slow him from swinging the sword. (Well thats what i read anyway)

When Realisim comes out can you give me buzz or make a thread about it please :)

I ordered it from a website with CD in the title and it had a delivery date of 25th Nov... but was £20... going to cancel it and get it from some where else!

They do get muddy and covered in blood. I'll post some pics in the screenshot thread later on.

The Inquisitors are really starting to get on my nerves. The pope demanded that I send my faction leader on a crusade otherwise he would excommunicate me. Anyway off he went with a full stack, 10 turns later he is just outside of Jerusalem and a he gets burnt for being a heretic! Next turn my crusading army disbands :( . They must have burnt about 6 family members.

I currently have two reasonably high level assassins who are going to be hunting inquisitors and maybe even pay the pope a little visit :D

EDIT: also I love the pre battle speeches by Generals especially when I am about to fight the French :D

I was playing as the HRE first. When I got asked to join the Crusade I made an army and sent them off. In the first turn I was in Venetian territory and they jumped me. My crusaders fought back and gave them a spanking, but at a great loss - I'd used weak units for my army. I sent a second army in to support them and BANG, the Pope sends me a nasty note and then sends the Inquisitors after me who, if they don't get you first time, follow you around and eventually kill anyone they like.

Man, those assassins are gonna be busy soon. Real busy.

hehe sounds good. I think the trick here is to start slowly - naturally this game is a lot slower than Rome which is a good thing in my books - focus on your income initially, followed by your army, and concentrate on your home security rather than galloping across distant lands. I couldnt resist starting my first campaign, and I'm into turn 35. (I'm playing med/med difficulty). I have wiped out the Welsh resistance and have sacked Antwerp and now moving into the rest of Belgium. I am trying my hardest to hit the rebels first, and I'm not running into too much resitance although the French have just cancelled their alliance with me. I dont want to start anything with the big boys until I'm armed to the teeth, otherwise they will steam roller me. It's pretty good stuff so far actually - a vast improvement over Rome.

The campaign map AI seems to be vastly improved. After I managed to take Rennes under the noses of a french army en route there, they attacked me. Next turn they allied with the danish and the scots who then attacked me simataneously on different fronts , after a few tense battles and nervy turns I managed to kill off the scots, hold out against the danish and my relations with the French won't go above abysmal after I sacked paris :D

When people mention "turn" I hope this is not what I think it is, as it sounds like the Civilization game Civ3 which was owned by me for one day before i rushed back to the shop to get my money back once i realised it wasnt actually a game but something you just watched, and the most the player was involved was some message saying you achieved xxx etc...

I thought it was an RTS type game?
I must be confused with something else :(

The game has 2 parts.

The first is turn based on the campaign map this is where the real meat of the game is and where you manage your empire (where you move your armies, diplomats, spys ect. You also construct building and recruit troops at this time.)

The second part is when your army meets an enemies army and this is played out in real time, where you move your troops into position and use real world tactics.

You get the best of both worlds imo. You get the depth of a turn based game and the adrenline and visual feast of an rts in the battles.

Phew, thanks fellas.

I dont mind some "money management" just as long as its not that that is the whole of the game. I can get it this week now.

I take it it's not like collecting resources in Age of Mythology tho?.
Im sure i have the demo somewhere, Im best off giving it a go. :o
