Medieval 2 total war thread

Is there anyway of disabling the Pope and all the Senate missions? I'd rather just play it at my own pace rather than having to stop everything to build some boats to block a port at the other side of the map. All I wanna do is build armies and take over the damn world! :(

Not that I'm aware of, I'm afraid. All I can suggest is starting an Islamic or Orthodox faction and ignoring your Council ;)

Anyone play as Egypt?

My Egypt faction is more laidback than Byzantium or England, but I kind of miss all the bother from the Pope, strangely, and having to manage his expectations - no matter how wacky they were!

I've just built Egypt into the makings of a super-power - I've got all of Africa and the Holy Land and about four turns ago the Mongols arrived - or threatened too. Maybe they appeared further North as I left four stacks of troops on bridges near Baghdad and I've seen nothing yet. I figure leaving them on bridges and fords is the only way I'm gonna be able to beat them at this time - lots of archers and spearmen.

Other than that, trying desperately to keep my head above water and develop towns enough to be able to fend off th eMongols and Timurids. Either way I think I'll be due a lot of battle speeches soon :)

And on the battle speeches, has anyone had the English General who has a bit of a mental problem? After a big long speech about smiting the French and what a bunch of softies they were, he finished with "the pink dragons and green pixies will charge through the middle, while the rest of you watch" or something like that - made me LOL :)

There isnt at the moment although this may be addressed in modifications, much like the Senate was removed from Rome. I actually think the Pope and the Papal States adds an extra "positive" element to the game, although it definitely requires some polish.

You could always play as a Islam faction?

When you say you sacked all them guys, did u just take the settlement and then sack it, then go and do the same to another leaving the settlement empty for the french/english to recapture?

I clean up the population in there and occupy it, so just in case it does get recaptured they ain't gonna be building much to stop my surge.

Then I just a stack one or two to back up stacks that are basically there to fill up depleated advancing stacks.

In your opinions what is best - sacking or exterminating?

I prefer sacking - more money - and public order isn't such a concern as in Rome. I might exterminate a large city with mainly a different religion, or just occupy a village/town if it needs to grow to be useful. I think sacking destroys some buildings though, so for a fast turn around into a useful settlement one of the other methods might be better.

It depends for me, if your planning on using the settlement and its the same religion as you, occupie it, if its a far away city and a different culture, exterminate them, and if its close by but not very useful to you, sack em :).

It depends on how the battle went.

If the Computer side gave me a bit of a beating I exterminate to teach the little blighters a lesson. If they were good little enemies and laid down and died like they should, I sack the settlement.

I also decide by which general is with the unit as what action you choose also effect things like the commanders chivalry and other traits. With some generals I merely occupy the settlement to keep the traits pure.

I heard the Funnoest thing in the *** talk at the start of a battle today against the rebals :D

My General said this:

......Now if any of you happen to find any women please send them to my tent because 2 things that War gives me is the feeling of power and THE HORN!!

I was like  :D  when i heard him say it :p

Its getting hard now, Ive pushed into France but the pope ordered me to stop hostilitys for 10 turns so Im using that time to regroup my armys and get some more units in.

The plague is everywhere, I just lost two generals to it :( One was a gooden as well.

The mongels are going strong, with the larges faction, the most militry units, and the most wealth in the game, I think they have had something to do with wiping out russia as well. *Nieldo takes cover for the invasion*

Edit: And spain just declared war on me :'(

/\ Oh yes it gets harder than that too!

Interesting comments about sacking - I presume you get the opportunity to rebuild the buildings that were destroyed though? I tend to sack for the hell of it, and I generally need the cash. But I notice the AI exterminates most of the time.

What turn are you up to?

Im upto 120 something and am just taking out the Milianese now(Well what they took of france in the first place)

I dont think i will have enough time to get all the towns required then march into Jeruselim.

WE NEED MORE TIME!!!

This game makes you rush a bit much sometimes coz of that :(

Yeah Im not going to win this campaign but its very fun :)

Holy roman empire has been wiped out by the danish.

Hungry is gone as well.

Had a fight with a spanish army, I won of course, tryed to ask for a ceasefire after that but they said no, even after I kicked the arse, offerd trade rights and 1000 gold to seal the deal. Looks like they will have to die once I have braught France to its knees.

Edit: im on about 130-140 now i think.

Zip, see my post further up in the thread with a little modification you can use to change the timings - you can make the game last two or four times longer - although you will have to start a new game for it to work.

My England campaign was only about ten turns from the end of the game when I finished.

My Egypt campaign is at about turn 68, I think. I've got a good bassis for progressing - just waiting for the Mongols to either appear in my backyard, or go through Russia. If it's the former, I've got a big fight on my hands, if it's the latter (I can only hope), then the Turks and Byzantines are in for a nasty shock :)

And I took my favourite screenshots yet - French Crusade charging Antioch came up short against one of my Generals - it was an absolute slaughter. He made it off the field with less than twenty men while I had a couple hundred casualties. Very satisfying looking at all the bodies on blue lying around the place :)

Since you have to start again ill wait for the Realism mod before i do that :)

Now if i run out of turns is it game over no more playing the campaign? Or can i continue on my way taking over the world for as long as i want? :)

(Ive never reached a turn limit in Rome Total war)

Let's have a look then! I am contemplating playing the Egyptians next as I want a fairly easy ride using a non-catholic faction. But I'll see.

Don't worry you can still play on when the time limit is reached.

I'll sort out somewhere to store them, other than my BT Vault as I don't think you can hotlink to individual screenies on there and some of those I've uploaded are lame ;)
