Medieval 2 total war thread

Ok, here's a few screenies I've grabbed recently - excuse the quality, I've converted them to JPG so they're quite small:

My favourite English General of all time:
HarrytheScarred.jpg

What a Spanish hill looks lie after I've been standing on top of it:
Spain5.jpg

The results page from that Spanish hill:
Spain6.jpg

And finally, the results from the above-mentioned French crusade - I just wish I'd taken one of the bodies:
FranceOutcome.jpg

Damnit things are hard in the land of the English. After I had taken Angers I moved 6 units of Spear milita in to keep the peace, they all died after the French bypassed Paris and attacked them.

Heres the last brave soldier serving his Empire :)

And heres the score screen

My army was one turn away but they will retake it soon enough.

Spain also sent another stack to Bordeaux but were beat down when they launched their attack.

I ask you, what use is a second line of wall defence when the enemy can just walk along totaly bypassing the second gate?

Ive also just had word that my long term allies milan have formaly declared war on the mongels, there getting close! HOLD ME!

/Holds you. :p

BTW its like that to keep the Ponys and Artilery out of the center

How fast does the plague Spead!!! There is not one town, fortress, general spy or assasin that hasnt got it after just 2 Turn!!!

Plus there is no point trying to spead it to to other people because its already down spain way and all over the Greek Penitula

Hey Skidmark, what's it like using the elephants? I havent seen any yet - the best mercenary unit I've come across is the Monster Ribault (spelling?).. I miss the Realism mod aspect of the game however, where you could capture a settlement in a completely different country and start to build their troops.

I've never had any :)

Closest I came to elephants was fighting the Timurids when they ran over one of my units before the others scared it off with massed flaming arrow assaults.

As for the Mongols in my campaign game, I haven't seen them bring any out yet - but things are all go. They turned up right next to Baghdad, bypassed Mosul and went straight for Damascus. I have 4 full stacks of troops all around them, and they finally cracked and attacked one across a ford. I totally slaughtered them, and captured the Faction Heir - no ransom this time, I just executed him.

I haven't had much chance to play since my initial vitory, but I stuffed Damascus with spearmen and archers (and Ballista Towers - like most of my Holy Land Castles), so I hope they'll be enough to defeat anything they throw at me (from one stack at a time) - at the very least they will cause massive damage and let the surrounding armies clean up the rest.

I'm relatively confident of defeating the Mongols before they can cause too much trouble.

On the Iberian side, Spain attacked me across a ford as well, and I left their bodies piled in the river like some kind of evil giant beaver. They lost Valencia and Madrid to me, now they want peace. Too late amigos, I want the whole peninsula!

I'll try and get some more screenies up soon - I've been taking more and more, but I'm at the match tonight and out tomorrow, so Saturday, probably :)

Couple of daft questions:

1. How do you make all the control and mini map things go from the bottom to the top of the screen? (during battle)

2. How many turns do you have until you have to complete the objective?

3. How the hell do i get my cardinal elected as pope?

Cheers.

1) Choose to minimise Battle UI - it's in the options.

2) I think it's about 220. Click on the shield with your faction's emblem and there is a field to tell you how many turns are left.

3) He needs to be one of the three Preferati (highest ranking priests on the Council of Cardinals). When the time for voting comes, if you have any Cardinals you can choose where to put your votes. If you have a Preferati, you can bribe other countries to vote for your man. Best bet is to make lots of priests and get them converting the heathen. Their piety will go up quickly and they will be cardinals before you know it. I've had 6 cardinals on the council before - and won three pope-votes in a row.

may I just ask which country has the best archers ? I get the game in a few days and I just love playing with archers with a custom battle

Millan have Cross bowmen that hide behind Shields when they reload and fire.

England has Long Bowmen that basicly rain down a firey hell none stop with almost no break untill they have used all the arrows up, You cant even tell they are reloading they are so fast. Plus they shoot from a long way back and you can deploy big Land spears that kill horses and stop them charging :)

You also get lots of old style guns with some units:)

Anyone found auto-resolve to be too good? Using it seems to cause a much smaller proportion of casualties than in Rome.

I had a rather Pyrrhic victory taking Damascus, nice balanced army (4 heavy infantry, 2 decent spearmen, 4 decent archers, 2 each of heavy and light cav and my 10* crusader general) lost both my siege towers to fire arrows and was left with a ram and one set of ladders - 300 casualties in total. I was fighting a rag-tag egyptian army of about 8 peasant and normal archers, a few spearmen units and a couple of horse archers. Tried an auto-resolve for comparison - 97 casualties for me , couldn't really have avoided so many fighting myself.

Had problems capturing some towers after running through and down them, no enemy nearby and they were slaughtering my troops from a long way away by shooting into their backs. Defenders on walls also seem too powerful, peasant archers shouldn't hold their own against armoured sergeants.

I dont 90% of the time i will lose and lose badly if i use it and if i win its always just an Average Victory.

It even manages to lose the unloseable battles

Argh, i'm seriously beginning to hate this game :p

Argh, i'm seriously becoming addicted to this game :D

Getting into it now a lot more, understanding how to do things. I've put it on short campaign and the Pope etc doesn't seem to be doing a lot, still get the odd mission though. :)

Hi All,

Got this about two weeks ago, but tonight will be the first time that I have actually had time to install it :)

Stelly

Auto-Resolve is bugged. Especially auto resolving siege battles. I'm sure this will be addressed in the forthcoming patch, along with hundreds of other things. :D

I've got about 10 turns left now before I finish my first campaign. I loved it all the way through. Found it quite tough in places too, but generally kept on the good side of the Pope although I have just been ex communicated for the first time  :D

My question is, whom shall I play next?
