Medieval 2 total war thread

Just spent 6 hours straight playing this :( From the moment I got home I started her up and plowed my way through enemies! Playing as England and damn, those Scotts are tuffies!

This win was when I sent all my infantry(Squad 1) in and then went to make a pizza, came back to this :D

I've got about 10 turns left now before I finish my first campaign. I loved it all the way through. Found it quite tough in places too, but generally kept on the good side of the Pope although I have just been ex communicated for the first time  :D

My question is, whom shall I play next?
Real tough questoin. I tried Byzantine, but just couldn't get to grips with it. I may have another go once MTR comes out :)

Still on Egypt - not played since my last real update, unfortunately. Looking forward to another weekend of slaughter :)

I prefer to look at the strenghts and weaknesses before I pick. Now if there was a faction with good spearmen, good archers and elephants I'd be happy ;)

The early and late periods have a dramatic effect on units and equipment as you'd expect. One faction may start out strong to begin with and lose the edge towards the end.

Just had the hardest fight so far in this game...

I'm in about -25,000 debt as the plague has just hit me, two of my main cities are revolting, i'm getting attacked my Scotland, Spain and the Danish(all in top 8 military ranks) so yeah... It's looking good for me :p

My English campaign is coming along, turn 155 and I have taken most of France, just the south reggions are left, and I think they have one at the north of Spain as well.

The next French town is going to be hard, it has a full stack inside and another full stack outside of it, I might wait around and see if it wonders off.

The Spanish armys have tried and failed three times in a row to take Bordeaux off me, im in a good position to push forward towards them and block them off at the mountains with another army, they will curse the day their foolish leader declared war on England!

Got some screenshots from a few battles as well, will try and get them uploaded :)

Edit: Screenshots!

After my last post I have retaken Angers and I took some shots, here they are.

The enemy AI attacked my wall and destroyed a tower! never seen this before :)

I fall back to the second wall, their army is mainly cavelry and I thought it would be best to fight them after showering them with arrows from the second wall. I leave 4 units of Armored swordmen (High Defence value) to hold them back while i get in position.

They did their job fantasticly causing more damage then I thought, I order them to retreat back to the second wall.

While taking the outside wall back I engage there troops at the gate and the hole in the wall, my men at the gate push thru and then surround the enemy still fighting in the hole, he fights to the death.

Aye, a lot of swordmen can't half deal some damage. Finally just beaten the Scotts out of the UK. They outnumbered me barely but I got all my highest ranked and most experienced units out there and well, they paid off bigtime!

I know where I wouldn't want to be if I were Scottish :p

Longbow men and unhorsed knights, lovely! About 30 of these deaths are when my soldiers wandered infront of my cannons and then decided they wouldnt move anywhere for a while... They got blown to crap.

I like to use a mix of Armored swordmen for the high defence value and then Dismounted English knights for the high attack value. I need to start bringing some spearmen along as well for those pesky cavelry.

Yeah, I need to start using spearmen also. Never really thought about it, I prefer to just get crap loads of the most expensive melee fighters and charge in :D

Me too, playing as Sicily the dismounted norman knights are good for that, excellent stats and trained at a normal castle. Not sure how well they'd stand up to a charge though, mostly been fighting Egypt and the Moors

I use spearmen all the time.

Cant go wrong with Spearmen, Horsemen, Crossbowmen/Arches and 2 generals

Pluss spearmen are cheap :D

I think we'll have our work cut out when the patch arrives guys - from all accounts some of the stats are wrong for various units, so a particular type of spearman has no extra bonus for killing cavalry and such like. It's going to make us look more closely at the details. It will improve the game no end.

Also why the hell did i get a Inquisidor come and kill my General when the pope Loves me with almsot all crosses? :p :(

Also For some reason when i put general inside my citys and castles i dont make as much money from them, People seem to be Unhappier and my Population growth either stops or goes minus?
Is that a bug?

Hmm, just won my campaign :D Got a little bit easy towards the end though... Check these out

Surely there is something wrong? Not trying to showoff or anything but those numbers don't seem right to me!

Did you ad the Capured enemies(the numbers in brackets) to it when you added it up?

Numbers look alright except for the AI Enemies Killed != your Men Lost, but thats probably a reault of recovering wounded.
