Mediocre claims to fame

The back of my head was on John Cravens Newsround back in the early 80's when he came to our school to do a bit on school dinners.
My brother’s voice was on that BBC Ambulance program. They had cameras in the ambulance dispatch call centre, but he didn’t want to be seen on screen, so they just used his voice from the call recordings. He was talking about someone who’d been hit by a train.

Not many if I am honest.

I've met the "dark destroyer" aka Shaun Wallace at a charity quiz event, really nice guy.

Another one

Rik mayal was born in the same town i was born in. although this isnt really a first hand meeting, just a random fact.

Looking at the house he was born in, it looks to be a 3-5 minute drive from where i grew up and went to primary school

once bumped into Frank Bruno outside a cinema in Southampton when I was about 9 years old, was with cousins / aunties / uncles etc

He gave us all signed postcard sized pictures of him in his boxing shorts posing muscle man style

I was very briefly all over the news internationally as something I did brought a government institution into disrepute* (it was actually blown way out of proportion because some junior journalist picked up on it, got the story wrong and them amplified it all over the place.)

*they did it to themselves, I just held them accountable

Some years ago someone was murdered in a park in Birmingham.

My legs and work shoes can be seen in the bottom corner of the BBC News report as I was making my way to the office the following morning - wasnt watching where I was going and nearly walked into their live shot.. :D

Oh and once had lunch with Sue Barker (she came to our school for some girls tennis related reason) Luckily I was off sick the week Rolf Harris did some filming in our school hall.

Flying to vegas 18 months ago on Virgin and Maya Jama was sat just across teh aisle from me, and Stormy was by the window, he practically clothes lined me when i went to the bathroom. The Virgin 787 has a bar and he was sat at that with Maya Jama and some others, he flung his arm in the air and caught me on my chest, he was apologetic.

Ah, bless, that’s such a blast from the past that he’d be carrying round pictures of himself to give out. Not like nowadays when literally everyone just has a camera in their pocket.

Daniel Craig briefly attended the same grammar school as me, literally a few years earlier.

My ex stepdad supplied TVs for Macca, when he was staying in his Wirral home.

Bryan Hamilton, the former pro footballer that also managed Northern Ireland and Wigan, gave me a few lifts during A levels. His daughter (Danielle) was in my biology and chemistry classes at Calday.

I got my photo taken with Ian Rush and Bruce Grobbelaar in the Anfield VIP dining lounge, when Candy sponsored Liverpool.

I once saw Chris Boardman doing some time trial bike training on the roads around Hoylake, must have been very close to the time he won Olympic medals with that infamous Lotus frame.

... All from 33+ years ago!

Calday, you say? Sounds like you were there a good few years before me. Nick Power, keyboard player with The Coral, was in my year when I was there. He was a right scally, always in trouble.

I started at Calday days before the first year summer holidays started in July '86, left after A levels summer '92. Mr Moss' (maths teacher) son, Julian, was head boy in final year.

Can't say I recognise the group name The Coral, nevermind Nick himself!

I met Pete Townsend a couple of times, 1st time was at work (In a Cinema) Which premiered one of his music Videos in the mid 80's, can't remember which one.

2nd time was at a Black Tie Function near to where I live, He was Guest of Honour. Our Host at that black tie do is now his Father-in-law.

Most memorable was when I was on a bus to Muswell Hill a couple of Years ago and the 12th Doctor got on :D

You were up the Wirral from my folks.. I think between my parents they probably taught a large number of footballers/relatives of footballers in Liverpool - dad did a stint of long term supply teaching in everywhere from Bretfield to Blue Coats.

Had Sabine Schmitt (RIP) behind me with her hands gesturing to get out of the way as she drove the Ring Taxi.. that was before Clarkson made the Ring over popular. Had beers at her bar too, then walked/staggered back by walking the ring track back to the hotel.

I get asked if I'm related to a particular Lord.. Nope but that seems to appear randomly.. still it's fun to leave a note in the visitors book signed lord and lady.

Ended up being on the graduate literature for my first company. I remember the photographer but it wasn't until decades later did I actually see the photo.

Nothing else really that I can think of.. most uneventful :/

Mediocre:

I was front of house for a "Whose Line is it Anyway" fringe show with Clive Anderson. I think I was the only one working who knew who he was as everyone else checked his ID.

I met the guy who runs the drivetribe youtube channel with the top gear lot in a sauna in Edinburgh. I explained to him that all tap water is drinkable cause it all comes from the same Scottish Water pipes.

I met Charles Duke, the 10th man on the moon at a school event. Probably the coolest person I have ever met.

Not mediocre (imo):

My great grandfather invented Ribena.

Remembered another one, believe my friends and I held some top 10 world records on Monkey Ball (GC). Records back then were spotty but some of our times and scores went up to 3rd on what we could find. What a game.
