The problem with most ports on PC isnt really even GPU related. Its terribly optimized/written code that primarily just hammers 1 or 2 threads/cores regardless of how many are available.
FC4 for instance, always 1 core at 100% pretty much no matter what.Other cores varying load depending whats goin on and if you were vsync'ed
I've tried FC4 on both a 295X2 and 980, The stuttering/hitching really annoys me.
Dying Light runs perfect.............dont you mean Evil Within, because yes that really is a rubbish game, that's the worst console port ever.......30 fps..........black bars all around it.....menu totally off the screen.... dreadful crashes......miles worst than Far Cry 4
Hopefully this is a simple enough question; If these new cards are just rebadges would it make sense for me to buy a 290 now whilst they're cheap rather than pay more for a 380?
If the rumors are true, they are not rebadges. Few 290/X can do the clocks needed to match a 980, and if its true, those clocks will be the base for the 380/X cards.
Wikipedia - Radeon 4800 Series said:Featuring an improved design with decoupling capacitors to reduce signal noise,[5] altered ASIC power distribution and re-timed the whole GPU chip, which resulted in a slight increase in die size but overall much better stability at high clock rates and a higher default clock

Well we don't know yet... rumours would suggest a single 380 won't (and I can't see how it would tbh), but everything is rumour and conjecture so far. We shall see once AMD make an official announcement. The deals on the 290's at the moment are indeed excellent, can't really go wrong there I'd say.As interesting as all these rumours are, the sub £200 290 looks a steal, I'm thinking would the 3xx stand up against 2 or 3 of them?
I don't think AMD have the resources to do a head to toe refresh.
