MegaDrive Genesis Mini available on Sep.19 worldwide (NTSC + PAL; $70, $90 with 2 controllers) - M2

moderately tempted as i was a megadrive kid as a boy and there's quite a few games on the list that i once loved. The main one i loved was street fighter 2 SCE and it's great to see that on the list. BUT ...you kind of needed the six button pads for that, and the mini is only shipping with 3 button pads :(

also, it's just a pain that the pads have to be wired.

I know it’s extra expense as the Japanese model cons with them but you can buy one of the 8bitdo 6 button pads as they’ve confirmed they work with the mini

So, 30 of the 40 games announced and today we get the final 12 (!) games announced. Yup, it's got 42 games now.

So, no Sonic 3, no Boogerman, no Desert/Jungle/Urban Strike, no Splatterhouse...

But, you can get a MegaCD, 32X and cartridges for it.

Cosmetic only, but I may try to get a MegaCD.

So all they need to do now get it more like a Nintendo product and not a Sony/SNK product. With M2 doing the software side, I'm hopeful there.

Unlike the Snes mini which I own and love there's very little reason for me to get this thanks to the the existing Megadrive collection on Steam which gave me 62 official Megadrive games for £8.99 or so in a sale.

That collection also has another huge advantage in that it allows mods through the workshop, I have to say it's amazing playing Street of Rage 2 as Guile or Sagat, etc, complete with special moves.

Another slightly less legit bonus is other mods are actually entire games - so a mod for Golden Axe might actually be the full Megadrive Castlevania or Contra games, or other Japanese games, etc, etc.

I like the hardware, but in terms of games, the Steam collection is legitimately (and illegitimately) already and lot better and a lot cheaper too.

Gutted no California Games on it.

Surprised we aren't getting Sonic 1 though.

Still a good selection though. I used to love Eternal Champions.
