MegaUpload has been shut down

When they said the world will end in 2012 I think they meant the Internet.

I did read that Filesonics 'closure' is only temporary and it should be back. Hopefully!!!!

Love how a thread about a bunch of leeching freeloaders having there pron downloads cut has turned into a debate about the pharma industry and the difference bettween a photograph of van Goghs sunflowers and the origional painting.

Well pleased that it seems another of these dumping grounds for copyright material seems to have closed it's doors without even being told to hopefully a few more will follow it's nice to see the good guys winning for a change.

Obvious troll is........etc.

Honestly it's not a troll those are my genuine thoughts on the matter, I am actually very pleased megupload has gone and it appears that filesonic and one or two others are following nicely. Fingers crossed for Rapidshare to bottle it before the end of the week now just need astraweb or similar to start getting nervous and blink.

I have 100% respect for the internet as a tool but I'm bored of downloaders, tired of talking to people who don't seem to have any understanding that what they are doing is wrong and really looking forward to less congestion on my net link.

It depresses me that there are people like you out there if you're not a troll. Just because something can be used for illegal activity doesn't make it inherently wrong, or not useful. Otherwise cars would have been banned years ago. Target the people using it illegally rather than taking away a very useful tool.

You still banging on about downloaders adding congestion to the internet?

Lol.

No, he said congestion on his net link, which is a perfectly valid argument ...

Exactly given that pretty much every domestic interent conection in the country is sold on a contended bandwidth basis any reduction in overall internet traffic in an area will improve everyones connection

Hahaha what is this guy on?

I'm on the real world where it's wrong to copy something you haven't paid for, welcome to it!

If Megaupload had made a real effort to purge themselves of copyrighted material and run as a legitimate service I'd have sympathy.

They knew that the majority of their traffic (and therefore advertising revenue) was driven by piracy. They made the minimum effort when asked to remove files (just removing one link, not content and alternate links) when asked in order to maximise profit, which wasn't enough.

Exactly there 'we removed reported stff' deffence was just their way of paying lip service to the law and while they may have complied with the letter of the law they certainly didn't comply with the spirit of the law. I say it again I'm happy to see them gone and amused to see the fat git the changed his name to dotcom looked pretty sheepish in the dock.

So Fileserve is also down, well not fully but no allowing of sharing data across their userbase.

Only seems to have happened this morning.

I think that leaves Rapidshare as the only big player left, maybe they might make a come back :p

To be fair they all had a good run out of it, they were shoving it in everyones faces. They were clearly doing wrong, but thought no one could touch them. How wrong could they have been.

So you want youtube gone as well then ?

No, the comparisons bettween mega upload and youtube made by all the bed wetting net freedom fighters in this thread is laughable. You tube has a legitimate business model and a much much better balance of content, yes youtube has some pirated material but it is not a vast percentage of it's business and it would still be viable without it. They also pay slightly more than lip service to removing copyrighted content when it's reported.

Youtube, iplayer and the like may slow down my contended net conection but as I have said I have no issue with the net being used for legitimate purposes and am happy to accept this contention it's just the contention from people who can't seem to stop downloading 'Linux Distros' that I can't stand ;)

I agree that Megaupload didn't seem to follow the law correctly, I was talking about sites like Rapidshare which I use quite often to send files to people that are too big for email.

I was with your argument until that point. How is downloading Linux distro's any less legitimate than watching a video on YouTube?

actually there is probably more pirated stuff on youtube than there was on megaupload, think of every person who has posted a video with a picture, video song etc that is not legally theirs.... ALMOST EVERY VIDEO

i would be surprised if you have never watched/downloaded somthing that is not yours....
