Men using sun beds

Odd as my girlfriend's mate enjoys going under the lamps, and her tan is obviously fake. Infact I knew it was fake before she admitted spending too much money on it. Just giving my opinion based on observation. :)

An observation of one? :o

People that use sunbeds are sort of like Michael Jackson, trying to be something they're not. I'm a ghostly white and perfectly comfortable with my race and don't feel the least bit inclined to make myself a black man

Do you style your hair? Wear aftershave? Do you shave? Do you go to the gym?

ooooh tan and possible skin cancer, or no tan and skin cancer free?
hmmmmm...

there are reasons why i have a pale 'english rose' complexion - i'm not vain enough to think a tan will make me look 'better' and bcc / scc / melanomas will never be fashionable :p

stay away from the sunbeds
wear a high factor suncream on exposed skin when it is warm / sunny
cover up delicate skin whenever possible

do not underestimate the risks of UV exposure
there is no such thing as a safe dose of radiation

be pale and interesting!!! :D

Nice to see a lighter skinned person with some sensible ideas.

Besides, clear pale skin looks gorgeous on girls in my opinion :)

Three actually, but this was the best one, considering that it was obvious as soon as she walked into the pub she had been under a sunbed.

How many silly people do I need to spot with fake tan before my opinion is valid?

Bit of a stretch there to compare it to hygiene. I do all of those minus going to the gym, however I go on a rowing machine and I swim. Not to look "good" but simply to keep healthy, an active body is a healthy body and all that.

Serious question, fake tanners obviously like to look darker than they're naturally meant to be. How long are you prepared to do it for? The rest of your life? Wouldn't it be safer and possibly cheaper to wear make-up? :p

Right ive just had a letter through the door from my gym and it gave me a free 5 minute sunbed session. Im sort of tempted by this as im really pasty white due to my bedroom tan :p My questions:
1. Is this for men, or is it a bit gay?
You can be gay, AND a man.

2.Does this really cause skin cancer?
Does cooking over an open nuclear reactor give you radiation sickness?

bakes0310 said:
3. How long should you stay in a sunbed for?
I dunno. 2 hours 45 minutes. Baste at 20 minute intervals?

bakes0310 said:
4. How long until you start seeing the results?
Umm.

5. what do you wear, im not going comando?
Wuss.

I've used sunbeds now and again - no difference between sitting out the back in the sun or using sunbeds. Dont get why ppl think its so gay (i am straight btw)! As far as I am aware there are certain properties of UV rays that are beneficial to the skin as long as they are not overdosed. I have no worries about the risks involved as its so similar to lying out the back. I wouldn't however, become addicted and look very much different to what i started out to be. I go before holidays a few times to get my skin somewhat acclimatised to the rays etc. Personally I notice benefits to my skin after going for a session. Its getting very popular with guys now and I dont see what all the fuss is about. Hair gel, using moisturisers etc etc is equally part of male grooming. My 2c worth!

but its for far less time..a short time at higher concentration VS a long time at a lower concentration...

That isn't bad for you?

How about if it wasn't UV light, what about saturated fat. What would you rather do, have a bag of crisps everyday for 25 years or drink 20 litres of fat in an hour? :D

after shaving to replace the nutrients in your skin that are removed during the shaving process.

Hair and dead skin is removed during shaving. What "nutrients" do you think are lost?

Gee, im not qualified in this field so i don't know off the top of my head. I think it explains on the tin of stuff so if your really that keen I can find out.

Edit: Maybe this helps....
"A lotion or cream that replaces lost oils, protects and conditions the skin.
Why? A moisturiser is essential to keep skin supple and smooth. It will help protect it from environmental aggressors, stop it from flaking and feeling tight and uncomfortable. A good quality moisturiser will help to keep your skin healthy and younger-looking. When? Use in the morning after shaving and at night after washing, over the entire face and neck"

This mentions the lost oils but i dunno what they are.

Nutrients cannot be extracted from the skin by shaving. Do they get sucked out the tissue by the Mach 3 speed? :D

The only thing I would moisturise for is after a dry shave to stop sore irritation and blotchy skin. However, a wet shave with wet shaving foam designed to lubricate and moisturise the skin during shaving, along with lubricating strips on any decent razor doesn't need moisturising afterwards.

Next you'll tell me you straighten your hair with straighteners and file your nails.

I use nivea for men moisturising cream on my face because if I don't after a while I start getting dry skin on my face, I think that's why the other bloke uses it too. No problem with that, just taking care of yourself really

lol, my hair isn't that long so it saves me from making that decision!

On the dry shave thing - isn't irrated and blotchy skin caused by lack of some essential nutrients? And yes i use the moisturiser for exactly same purpose as you then.

Stop banging on about nutrients! It's simply because a dry face + sharp blade + dry stubble = sore skin.

I don't use moisturiser. My body moisturises its skin all by itself and is pretty good at it. I've had my skin 20 years and nothings flaked off and the doctor hasn't said "THAS NUTRIENTS ARE FALLINGS OFF YOUR FACES!!

I shave with a wet Gillette Fusion razor and some shaving foam from Asda. Job done.

maybe you aren't aware that every guy is different and skin types differ so different people require different methods of making their skin look and feel as good as possible. Is it just too much for you to accept that?? if you suggest that it is completely unneccessary then how come all the companies who make such products are still thriving? Also you dont seem to like the nutrients word but its a fact that they do exist in the skin so get over it.
