Hi all

My E220d needs its annual "Service B", entailing:

...so basically mostly checking stuff and change of oil and filter, which I could do myself for about £50 and an hour of my time. This is surely taking the absolute mick.

There's another £20 to pay if I want a courtesy car too.

I'm starting to wonder if I really need to be paying this much but then I'm thinking of 1. residuals for FMSH and 2. my extended warranty and them wriggling out of stuff if I take it elsewhere.

Any tips, or do I just have to suck it up?

You get some perfume as well
Lol

What year is the car? I gave up on Merc on my 68 plate 2 services ago. I found a specialist AMG/M car bloke. I doubt it'd affect residuals at all and places like Motorway or WBAC don't even ask whether it's dealer or not.

I agree with all the above sentiments, just not sure what to do about it. Presumably if any parts are genuine Merc they can't wriggle out of warranty claims?

Not a chance in a billion years am I paying 700 quid to service a 6 year old e220d. Find a Merc specialist as a nice halfway house.

If you go to a dealer with express lane servicing, your car will be in and out in 15 minutes max, and that’s if they check all that’s on the list. Ask me how I know.
And yes, it’s taking the mick.
As for warranty, you can take it anywhere, but they must be VAT registered and use genuine parts (make sure receipts are kept).
Edit
A “b” service should include a brake fluid change and pollen filter.

1. Few people care about full dealer service history on a car like this. It’ll make negligible difference to its worth when you come to sell it.
2. Your extended warranty likely only requires proof that it has been serviced to the service schedule with MB parts. Take it to the local car spannerer for a quarter of the price.

You could always buy genuine parts and get someone else to fit them which is what I often do. That price is an absolute joke.

This.

My local garage will change oil and filters for half an hour's labour (£35).

"Check first aid kit"

That'll be £50 please

Most of the checks are fluff. Do the oil and filter changes yourself. It's a shame more cars don't have the oil filters at the top as it makes oil changes using a pump super easy. Find an indi garage to do the brake fluid (probably £50) as that can be annoying.

Merc specialist ftw, though saying that the one round here isn't much cheaper than Mercedes, but they do offer a pickup/drop off service.
The last time I got my car serviced at a supposedly reputable garage they didn't change the crush washer on the oil drain plug and it started leaking....

Could probably buy 5 new first aid kits for that amount
