Mercedes servicing - £669 for basically an oil change on a 6-year old car...?!

full dealer service history is such a scam thats its wild people still believe it.
It will make absolutely zero difference when you come to sell the car.
Plenty of independant garages that will do it for the fraction of the price.

Agreed my uncle recently had a flat battery took it to Mercedes and it cost him £600 and it’s only an a class

Not all of them. Toyota/Lexus are pretty good, prices are ok, and they give you another year warranty. Up to 10 years.

But yea, the Germans tend to be a rip-off and give you FA. The fact they also charge for a courtesy car is a **** take

My A6 needed a new battery and for a laugh I asked the dealer and it was £612 (105AH battery). I bought a Varta which is one of the OEM brands with the correct spec for £220, but I did already have a device for resetting the battery management.

You can skip "programming" the battery in if you don't care about start/stop. You can even just use a normal and far cheaper, non-AGM battery too if you don't.

I've owned an E350d since 2018, I've done both the A & B service at my local F1 Autocentres since then after Merc garage wanted £575 for a B service.
They charge me less than half of what Merc wanted, its utterly hassle free and the lads there are superb.

All the receipts are there, book is stamped, service is registered on the car's computer so all good from my end.
Full dealer service is a total scam and rip off, they charge you a premium for the 'prestige' of have a service there when in reality there is no prestige at all.

If you get halfrauds to fit the battery, they'll code it as well.

I use Toyota for servicing. The prices aren't horrendous, plus the dealership is literally 5 minutes walk from my house

I did used to use a proper mechanic, had done for about 15 years, but he retired a few years ago and I haven't found anyone else local.

I do all servicing work myself and just put the receipts in Folders, I really don't understand the logic these days about wanting full dealer service. As long as the car is as it should and has service history, you can generally tell if the person selling it is having you over.

90% of the time, the people doing the work at main dealers are absolutely clueless, and do more harm than good. My friend has been shafted by BMW and Mercedes main dealers on M and AMG cars multiple times. Yet he still goes .

I recently got ripped off £297 for an oil & filter+ inspection on my Skoda superb, this post has made me feel better. :)

There are endless stories like this.

The boot handle on my Skoda Superb stopped working last year. Main dealer quoted £250. I ended up watching YT video and ordering a part from ebay. £11 and a 5 minute job.

That is how they do business, imagine if it was a fancy sport model
Just before I got rid of my A45 AMG a few months ago I got a quote for the next service from the main dealer just for a laugh. They wanted £954 for what was basically a minor "A" service.

They've always been more expensive than an independent as you'd expect, but within the last couple of years they've taken it to another level. The last time the car had the same service (car was 9 years old), it was in the £350 range.

Maybe they are just conditioning their current customers so when they come to service an EV £350 for a screen wash top up and a going over with the work experience boys gritty sponge seems a pretty decent deal.

1. Few people care about full dealer service history on a car like this. It’ll make negligible difference to its worth when you come to sell it.
2. Your extended warranty likely only requires proof that it has been serviced to the service schedule with MB parts. Take it to the local car spannerer for a quarter of the price.

Point 2 is incorrect. Has to be done at an authorised merc service centre.

I thought they couldn't invalidate a warranty as long as manufacturer spec parts were used and it was done by a VAT registered business
