Ageia cuts price of PhysX cards to $99 this Christmas

Ageia is not giving up on its dedicated physics processing card, the PhysX and since it didn't turned out very popular even with the propaganda games already released it is trying something else, a price cut. For this holiday season, together with a secsi new graphics card you'll will be able to get a PCI PhysX card for just $99. The offer, which will run throughout the holiday shopping season will see major online shops like Newegg and TigerDirect sell the card at $99, significantly lower than the $150+ price tag of today.

Thinking the price cut might still not be enough Ageia has went back to software and will soon release a mod-kit plus two new levels for the best-known PhysX-supporting game out there - Unreal Tournament 3. Will it be enough? :D

Now if only they paid customers $99 to take one, then they would shift them. :p

Hahaha good one :)

I looked at the reviews on the physics cards today they crack me up. Full of people saying how people keep dissing them without using them and how they are the bset buy they ever had

Ppl say these arnt worth it but i have never been able to figure those ppl out when there willing to spend £300+ on a graphics card for the extra eye candy but then say are mad for spending an extra few quid on one of these.
Im happy with mine and cant wait for all thise games which are right arounf the corner."

ARound which corner? Is this a rounderbout perhaps and thus will never end and therefore the games will never arrive?

O heres a gooden:

And to those of you who think you can save money by putting physics on the GPU.. GPU's are NOT supercomputers, they CANNOT do everything.. it's like getting a soundcard to compute 3D graphics. it's pretty pointless, it's inefficient, and it's a "cellotaped together" solution.

Once you see the PhysX chip in action.. you'll know what I mean..

OOO it gets better.. after all.. almost every game will support them:

This piece of hardware will be usable for many years to come as the very latest games available are only just getting to grips with what is capable with this card. Almost all new games are enabling support for this card. if you use it with a supported game the performance and visuals are mind blowing.

and someone claims it
even loads the maps 75% quicker.

Is this possible?

Not got any reason to. I don’t see any reason to upgrade to the new PPU if you already have an older PPU. Its not the hardware that’s the problem it’s the lack of game support. There are no games pushing the older PPU's to the limit so why get a new faster PPU if its even any faster.

I'll think about getting one when they hit £30.
I have to agree. $99/£50 (and that's before VAT) is still a bit much for me considering the only game I'd currently get that supports PhysX is Unreal Tournament 3. That would be like spending £90 just to play one game.

umm Should I get a second GT or one of these, decisions decisions.

Wasnt GRAW rubbish, it looked worse than other games and ran sooo slow, im not sure if they patched it but it offered no incentive to get one of these

Im sure people have paid a lot more to play Crysis ;)
And all the other games that have recently come out. :p Which is exactly my point. Ageia's PPU just doesn't support enough quality games to justify its price, even at $99. At least not to me.

if games like Crysis, Call Of Duty 4, The Witcher and other upcoming AAA titles had PhysX support, and had effects that actually made a big difference not only to immersion/environment but to gameplay as well, then I'd be willing to spend a lot more than $99 on one.

Wouldn't exactly say all the other games that have recently came out require the best of PC's. But yea, the PPU still isn't good enough to warrant a purchase from me. They should bundle a few games with it to make it sell better. UT3 being one and....can't think of any others :D
