Merry Xmas Pottsey

Just completed Crysis, shame it doesn't support it- surely all those bits blasting about could be computated by aegia card, this freeing up CPU cycles?

Aegia really need to implment the card to do other things, not just games physics. How about if it's seen under windows as a third CPU core? Or for video encoding/music/folding/3d rendering it's supported and used?

Chaining multiple PhysX processors is the likely reason.

lol. If people get SLI physics..

“When games don't support it?
Just because something is cheap doesn't make it useful.
What nonsense.“

Some games do support it making it useful for some people. It also works in none gaming apps. There are also tons of free games that use it as well.

“id rather just buy a second graphics card and have more fps plus it would take more stress off the cpu at times, like the physx card is supposed to?“
A 2nd graphics card puts more stress on the CPU not take stress off. Depending on your CPU a PPU can give more a FPS boost then a 2nd GPU.

So what games get a better boost from a PPU than SLi?

LMFAO! just sold my Physix for £80 on ebay 3 weeks ago, and guess where i found it.....

in the local skip LMAO and it must have worked because he left me good feeback ! LOL !

''RESULT''

and that £80 just bought me the antec p182 ;)

yeh, well never used one in my life, it was in the skip in a cardboard box, i imagined it was broke, put it on ebay as... UNTESTED and Weeeeeehayyyy £80 in my pocket :) been 3 weeks, had positive feeback saying blah blah great item....:)

SO, dont listen to your mother when she tells you to stop playing with the rubish :p

Pretty much all of them that support the PPU if you’re to CPU limited to gain benefit from a 2nd GPU.

If you don’t have a super fast CPU a cheap PPU will give more FPS over an expensive 2nd GPU. Of course the best thing to do is get both a PPU and a 2nd GPU for max speed.

LOL, please provide an example of where a PhysX card provided a greater framerate boost than a second GPU in an SLI/Crossfire compatible game?

AMD may buy Ageia.

PPU + GPU on GFX card = win ? :p

Like AMD want to buy Ageia, they have enough problems as it is!

I'd like to see a 50% boost in framerate in some games compared to what SLi can do.

Laugh as much as you want but if you understand how GPU’s work you know its true. Its common sense I shouldn’t need to post examples.

If your CPU limited adding a more powerful GPU doesn’t change FPS’s. Adding a 2nd GPU is just like adding a more powerful GPU hence FPS don’t change. Adding a PPU fees up the CPU so the CPU can provide more data to the GPU so you can use that extra power.

A 2nd GPU or new GPU is useless unless your CPU is powerful enough. In CPU limited games PPU’s have been shown to increase FPS by as much as 30%. In that situation adding a 2nd GPU is not going boost FPS as you dont have the free CPU power.

EDIT:
“I'd like to see a 50% boost in framerate in some games compared to what SLi can do.“
SLI should never be able to give a 50% FPS boost. That should be impossible if both cards are the same power.

I clearly lack common sense Pottse, PLEASE post some real-life examples, whether it be benchmarks or whatever.

Only at lower resolutions. At resolutions such as 1680*1050 or higher on max details then a second GPU will always pay dividends as the load on the GPU increases, and CPU power becomes less of an issue. Hence why at high resolutions on modern games you see weaker CPU's being only marginally slower than more powerful CPU's.

SLI should never be able to give a 50% FPS boost. That should be impossible if both cards are the same power.

Impossible? Please expand on this.
