For ages now I've quite happily used Messenger 7.5, mainly because I can't stand Live Messenger.

Every week it asks me if I want to upgrade and I tell it to bugger of and all is good.

Now however, it won't even let me sign in without installing Live Messenger.

Is there any way around this? I've tried installing it, then removing and reinstalling 7.5 but the same thing happens.
 
Are MSN 7.5 and Live that different?

WLM is great. Get the A-Patch and you can make it pretty much the same as MSN 7.5.
 
7.5 is very similar to the Messenger of old, and I have a patch that removes all the silly winks and nudges.

Live Messenger looks kinda Vista like and doesn't really float my boat.

If no one can suggest a way around it then I'll check out the patch you mentioned, cheers.
 
Same problem here, and was about to start a thread.
Surely we can;t be the only 4 OcUK'ers hoping to stick with original MSN?.

Supposedly editing the text string (and version number) in a hex editor can fool it, but i can't get it to work.

Please report back with any success/hacks found. I really want to stick with 7.5 :(.
 
I just got kicked off and got this message im angry now tbh.

Edit: Epic win for me i got it back working by right click my msn 7.5 shortcut. Then clicked properties then comptability and selected run in windows 2000 mode. Woop

Same frigging hate live with a passion, been on 7.5 for months and months, then all of a sudden about 10 minutes ago iget a ******* good old NV4 BSOD error from the good old Nvidia drivers (which i aint had for eons), so my comp restarts, 7.5 goes to sign in again, got to get new version, ********, even though i was on 7.5 fine before the good old Nv4 error crashed my comp. :mad::mad::mad:

Something to do with the recent mass-virus badness (which forced me to format because I couldn't get rid). And a vulnerability in the webcam feature of none 'Live' messengers. I'll take my chances ;) (the virus I had was my own fault, a momentary lapse in net-sense).
 
I tried that with my 7.5, windows 2000 compatability, but everytime i tried to install it it kept saying i needed windows XP or later, so i just installed MSN 7 and compatabilty 2000 mode worked a treat on that, yer a genius, thanyou. :D
