Metal Gear Solid 5: The Phantom Pain

I'm a big mgs fan but I have to agree. The gameplay mechanics are great but I'm starting to get bored of doing the same thing over and over. Metal gear needs to be a linear game with loads of cut scenes imo.

Have to agree with some of the people saying this is repetitive. Going back to the same places multiple times gets dull quite quickly. MGS4 was one of my favourite games ever but this isn't close to it.

The only way its remotely hard as well is if you try to do things without getting seen or killing people. The reaction slow mo makes it all far too easy. If I wasn't trying to get top staff for motherbase I would do missions in 1/4 of the time.

Where's that in options?

Mother base > Base Facilities

You can upgrade multiple platforms at the same time if you have the resources

You can turn reflex mode off. I did when I started playing but like you I also wanted to capture everyone and after doing the first few missions without it I realised what a pain in the ass it was trying to headshot a moving target that was shooting at you with a single shot tranquiliser pistol so I turned it on. I don't really need it anymore now as I just riddle people with rubber bullets from my SMG or sleep/stun grenade spam.

Mission 18 might spoil this game a bit for me, it has a heap of things I hate:

Escort mission - *shudders*
Useless child AI
Failure if a child dies
Forced to carry an injured child
Fighting forwards and guarding the rear
Load kids one at a time! Seriously?!
Oh and a helicopter gunship circling

Am sure I'll get there once I fully respec for that mission but it's one of the worst levels I've experienced in a while and stands out even more when the rest have been great

I think that because I only get an hour or two a night I'm still really enjoying it.

Even to the extent I played through an old mission (only upto Mission 10) just to give it a different approach. E.g. instead of capturing a guy I did the whole sniper from a huge range approach which netted me a better score overall because of the speed in which I could do it.

I'm honestly loving it...but I can't 'binge' on things so it probably keeps it that bit more exciting for me.

Yeah I didn't like that mission, a lot of my friends had no problem with it but I did :(

Also this happened to me in it:

I shot down the gunship and it landed on the kids killing them all... yep.

I don't know how, but I failed that mission a good few times having to restart form checkpoint... I still got an S rank XD. Goes for most missions, I get an S rank Octopus/Foxhound first go. Except mission 28/29. Damn those missions and damn whoever came up with those missions. Still A ranked those though.

I'm not liking the fact that a lot was cut from this game. Looking at the trailers, I know there's a few cutscenes that didn't make it in the final game. Without spoilers, a lot of folks are saying the important bits of the story were cut from the game too, a la Destiny.

There is "Chapter 2" after the credits roll I think.

Yup, I've fully completed the game now, last mission is 50 but about 2/3rds of the new missions are harder versions of previous missions. Some of the story missions are weak but there are definitely some good missions in there that advance the plot forward

There are 3 types of repeat missions:
Perfect stealth, getting seen fails the mission
Some kind of hardcore mode without reflex and chicken hat
Procurement on mission, this one is good. You start off with no items or weapons

Konami have just put this statement out:

Regarding save data for "METAL GEAR SOLID V: THE PHANTOM PAIN" becoming corrupt under specific circumstances.

In "METAL GEAR SOLID V: THE PHANTOM PAIN" which was released on September 1st 2015, there is a possibility that save data may get corrupted and becomes unusable if having Quiet as a buddy while playing "Mission 29" or "Mission 42". This situation can be avoided by not using Quiet as a buddy while playing either "Mission 29" or "Mission 42".

We deeply apologize, and appreciate your patience for further announcements regarding this issue.

This issue is known to be present for Xbox360, XboxOne, PlayStation®3, PlayStation®4 and Steam®.

Luckily d-dog is the best buddy. Quiet can suck a fat one.

Jokes aside that's not good. I'd be pretty upset if the save I've spent over 30 hours on gets corrupt.

It's a superb game and I'm enjoying it, I'm just not yet entirely convinced it's a superb MGS game. A lot of what "made" MGS for me in the previous instalments - the storyline/narrative, interaction between characters, lots of in-game dialogue - is missing here, which is a real shame when this is probably the last one.
