Metal Gear Solid Games

I just pray the Japanese overtones stay away from Guns of the Patriots. With the exception of a few references to the Otaku, MGS was fully in the western vein, but MGS2 had far too much guff. Raiden swinging around like a ninja in one of those cheaply made anime cartoons in the trailer made me wince. It's just not Metal Gear. Ah who am I kidding. It's not gonna be another Metal Gear Solid 1.

I find mechs and cyborgs more believable than vampires t b h.

Hes not a vampire, thats just his name, if you call up snake a lot he tells you about him, hes a romania knife wizzard, meaning hes been practicing all his life, he was trapped underground and had to feed on blood to quench his thirst, and he developed a taste for it, and the reason he got the name vamp, was because hes a bisexual, i dont know how it means that, but thats what snake tells you rofl.

So what's the difference ? He survives a gunshot to the head, he drinks blood, he has fangs.

Next on the subject: Fatman. Now please, how can you justify the inclusion of such a ridiculous character?

fatman was ok, he was pretty weird, a fat man going around on rollerskates but it was pretty unique for a character.

The idea wasent about realism though, just a good story and game which it is.

Cyborgs and mechs = more believable than vampires .

By definition we already have cyborgs and mechs, and even the beginnings of optic camouflage. Don't have any water walking vampires yet though.

Maybe a moot point but it does make MGS1 more believable and less fantastical when combined with the story imho.
Your missing my point. However I believe that whatever I am going to say will have no effect on how you look at it. So I'll back down and concede defeat. :)

Ditto - the rest relied too heavily on long cut scenes, which i found boring.

1 was fantastic, one of my favorite games ever.

Agreed. Infact i think it's probably the best game ever, well the one I've enjoyed playing the most anyway.

I really can't see why people like 2 over 1. The first Metal Gear Solid is one of the darkest games in the series. For example, the scene where Snake reaches the surface at the beginning of the game and sees the Hind D take off. The way the music composes, the angles of the flight, and the graphical effects (blurring and such) really gave the game a serious, gritty and moody tone. The bad guys are also far more atmospheric and believable.

Now you guys think the cartoony orange rig with what is considered one of the poorest character changes (Raiden) in gaming history, and over the top bad guys such as fat bombermen, vampires and such constitutes as a better game? No way. Music, storyline, topics and characters covered in the second game pales considerably when compared to the original game.

Going off on a tangent here, Bungie obviously thought the same as everyone else, and followed the same formula that Kojima did: make a rubbish sequel with far less serious overtones and a ridiculous character change. Halo 2 and Metal Gear Solid 2 has a lot of remarkable similairities really.

Thankgod i'm not the only one thinking that!! I can't believe people can say 2 was better than 1 ! IIRC a lot of the bosses were very similar too, like having to fight a helicopter etc It's like they just thought about improving the graphics, adding a few more tweaks to the gameplay and AI but not bothering with the story line IMO.

I didn't know mgs1 was released on the cube with better graphics, think i'll have to get hold of one and play it for sure!

MGS1 was just awesome, I remember having the demo before it was released and playing it over and over again, not bothering with my other games at all.

I don't mean to be rude but like I said with other games and movies.

1 was great. 2 was better then one. 3 was better then 2. 4 will be better then 3. It's how it goes.

Saying 1 is better then 3 is just insane.

Who's that aimed at?

So having a higher number after a game/film automatically makes it better than the previous one?

There's no doubt that 2 is still a good game, much better than a lot of games. I found it a big disapointment though, i thought the step from 2 -> 1 was going to be how the step from 2 -> 3 turned out (although I barely played 3, it was a much bigger improvement on 2). If that makes sense...

WHAT?

WHAT?!

WHAT?!??

There are lots and lots of examples of games and movies which aren't as good as their predecessors. Really, think about it. Terminator, Alien, Star Wars, Ace Ventura, Speed, A Space Odyssey, The Exorcist. The list goes on, and that's just movies.

Also, learn to spell "than"; it's not got an e in it, and do something to your sig as it's filesize is over the maximum allowed 20KB.

That was on purpose though, similar bosses and experience was part of the storyline. It helps emphasise Solidus' interpretation of the S3 program which he mistakenly thought was the Solid Snake Simulation.

It's worth the asking price, easily. I played through it several times, and because it's built on the MGS2 mechanics, TS is a fresh experience of the MGS1 story.

The gamecube remake is great, but some will find it too Hollywoodized. Snake's backflip onto a missile as well as a backflip stunt just to pick up a sniper rifle are two examples. Some parts of it are just plain ridiculous but it's one of the better games out on the console (not really that hard to achieve anyway).
