Soldato
I have MGS IV, and MGS: GZ, do you guys recommend playing either before this? MGS: GZ is on my X1.
Definitely play GZ as it is a prologue to this. If you play it on the same platform you can import tour save file too, so you get a few extras.
Another brilliant touch- On a mission, and the objective is about 1500m away. I notice that there is a truck just outside where I am which looks like it will be going in that direction, so I get in and equip my cardboard box just in case anyone checks the back. Brilliant plan right?.... Then it starts raining. Box gets soggy and breaks. Guards everywhere at the first outpost we pass!
Dunno if anyone else has tried this, but Riot shield + Riot SMG = amazing.
I don't even use the shield. Riot SMG on it's own is stupidly overpowered. You can 'stealth' and get S rank easily because you shoot anyone in the head once to instantly stun them.
Yeah, before they start wearing helmets anyway. The problem with that is how few shots you get off before your suppressor is broken so you basically have to go loud or keep calling in supply drops. Easier just to assume you're gonna go loud and take the riot shield for protection and go ham.
How do you control Quiet? She never seems to follow me, after jumping off the helicopter she runs off to a cliff and doesn't move from there.
Tbh, I'll probably just kill her if I play through again. She is practically useless for a large part of the game, until you can unlock a silencer for her, and it isn't like you'll be missing out on a great character!
Dunno if anyone else has tried this, but Riot shield + Riot SMG = amazing. Find a spot where your back is secure, pop out, stun some enemies, hide and repeat. Makes clearing outposts much easier non-lethal if you want to go loud and change it up.
Of course it doesn't take long for the AI to adapt, I've cleared about 4/5 outposts like this doing side ops and now they're starting to carry riot shields themselves. Not to mention the helmets from previous stealth headshot runs.
Things are gonna be harder now. I thought maybe they would cycle through gear if you change it up but it seems like it's actually additive. Might have to rely on stealth for a bit to take out as many helmeted and shielded enemies before going loud but then they'll start carrying knives. Decisions, decisions
Oh and some quick tips:
1. At almost every base you'll see an orange loading bay, make sure you grab the manifest from each one as you can fast travel between them which makes it much easier to quickly do side ops (and travel in general) although obviously be careful when you're there as a couple are in the middle of the base.
2. Speed is king in this game. If you want an S rank just go loud. Doesn't even matter if you take millions of hits and leave a trail of bodies, if you finish the mission fast enough you get scored so high that you get the rank anyway. I went through mission 7 loud and restarted twice with Riot SMG and Riot Shield and because loud is so much faster despite all this I got an S rank without even trying.
3. Rather than call in a helicopter to exfil at the end of side ops you can just hit escape and choose "return to ACC" which takes you back to the heli and doesn't cost anything. Plus it's a lot faster than waiting for it to arrive and then travel time too.
4. When you've tranqued/stunned an enemy, you can kick them awake and interrogate them for info. When I'm not on the clock I've started doing this to every soldier as it gives you extra heroism and can help locate stash/diamonds/prisoners etc much easier.
Figured these might help some people Might be obvious but I wish I had known these earlier.
I managed to take down a helicopter by throwing a grenade and Quiet sniped it mid-air, hitting the chopper and exploding on impact
