Metal Gear Solid. The Phantom pain.

They shouldn't do, you must be approaching too noisily or something.

Usually when there are two guards together, they have patrol patterns and one tends to stay slightly behind the other when they both stop. If you grab one from behind the one furthest ahead won't realise

Unless you time it badly.

I'll record some footage if you like. I know what stealth walking is (you move slower than full speed walking/crouch walking).

100% of the time if I hold up the guy behind, the guy in front is alerted to my presence.

I'd assumed it's because he hears me telling the other guy to put his hands up. I mean, he practically shouts "Don't shoot!" when you do it. So not hard to hear this going on.

Are you sure you've done a hold up with two guys close together like this? Because I've attempted it about 5 or 6 times, with the same result every time.

Are you always doing a holdup rather than a choke hold? Choke holds are most of the time a better option, they are silent and you can drag enemies ought of sight before you question them/knock them out.

Oh when you said 'Hold up' I thought you meant grabbing them from behind to choke out.

Not really worth holding people up. Choke out the first one, choke out the second one and as long as there aren't any guards within about 35 metres you can Fulton them away without anyone noticing.

Have you unlocked and equiped the Black sneaking suit? you can get it very early game and it makes a pretty big difference to how easily enemies can see and hear you.

This game is so infuriating. I spend literally three hours sneaking very, very slowly on a mission. I crawl everywhere. Never get up. So long that I have a full day and night cycle.

I'm hiding in a box, and nudge the controller slightly so that the box makes the tiniest of movements. I'm actually on a rooftop as well. Lo and behold, a solider on the ground a building's distance away spots this incredibly minuscule movement and immediately starts shooting.

It's beyond frustrating. It's making me hate the game. I lost three hours of play through a tiny, tiny movement, and the soldiers are so eagle-eyed they can see this from a mile away.

I'm also spotted crawling on the ground over and over, by soldiers so far away I can't even get a clear shot with the tranq gun. I just don't know how anyone plays this game stealthily, because the requirements for staying hidden are perversely hard to meet.

e: another thing I found you can't do, is shoot out lights with a suppressed gun. The AI will instantly know where you shot from, and open fire. I've shot a single bullet (from crouched in shadows position), and only one from that spot, to take out a light, and the soldiers /next to the light/ know exactly where I am. Despite the fact that I was about 200m from the light itself. If you shoot out a light, they just /know/ exactly where you are. Suppressor or no suppressor.

If any calls BS on this, I'm happy to make a vid showing it happening. It's ****** stupid.

Lol.
I don't understand why you can't get stealth right, I've been doing without bs such seeing through walls or reflex. Just learn the patrol routes, take out the npcs who patrol the outer areas, carry them away, send them flying. Then try out a few infiltration routes n knock out everything on the way until you find a suitable option.
As for avoiding detection, crouching/crawling don't make you invisible. Imagine a vision cone in front of each Npc and try to always hide behind a wall when the center of the cone is pointed towards you.

Weird, stealth can be tough at times but it still manageable. It almost looks like there's something wrong with your game.

The soldiers can spot you from a reasonable distance and you have to crawl/crouch slowly behind their backs. Research your surroundings carefully and don't be hasty. There's always a decent point of entry/opening somewhere. Once you develop more stuff, you'll have a lot more tactics at your disposal. Also, it's hard not to be spotted at all but you can still get away with it without raising an alarm.

I've done 15 missions so far and only got into an open gunfight twice, both those ocassions being my fault/hastiness.

If you can make a video, then do so. Maybe we'll be able to provide some further tips.

Cheers

EDIT: You can also throw empty magazines to distract soldiers and sneak behind their backs

I gave up on stealth, i just go in loud and kill them all 1 by 1 taking cover in a corner or roof

anyone have a superwide fix for this? on my superwide it shows black bars

Please can you post a video? I'm not 'calling BS' I'm just really curious and want to see what is actually happening.

Sure. What recording program would you suggest? I've not recorded game footage for years, and back then 30 mins of recording would eat up 5 gig or something daft :p

Fox- are you using the reflex mechanic? or the stealth indicators on the edge of the screen that tell you when someone is suspicious? It really is quite easy to remain undetected tbh, I don't get how you are having so much trouble, and even when you are detected you get a short period where you can take out the guy that sees you.

I just use NVIDIAs shadow play feature. I don't know what people who do proper recording use. FRAPS used to be the go to thing a while ago.
