Metro Redux

Just a quick Q:

If I get this from Steam does it have its own entry in your game library or does it mod the old games 2033 and Last Light?

I hope its separate so I can play both versions independently and see the differences.

Just remember that it is ok to scream like a little girl whilst playing the book depository level, I did.

Excellent, thank you! :)

Is that the level where the beasty jumps up and down from holes in the floor and ceiling? Yep, squealed like a wuss on that level.

Yup :)

I was a complete wreck playing that level, my wife just laughed :(

The Redux version is so much better than the std version of Metro, but even better when using SweetFX.

The Redux version of LL is not worth it though over the std edition.

Got half way(I think) through 2033, to the point where those little dog-like creatures would pop out of the floor cracks and assault you from all angles..did my head in that bit. When I eventually finish this, should I just play the copy of Last Light I got for a fiver or get Redux?

I had the std Metro but bought the Redux and then played that again. Your choice but I would buy (if cheap enough) the Redux version and start again and complete that as your Metro game. Then, for continuity, play LL.

I grabbed the LL version complete with the DLC's etc for around £3.

Bought 2033 Redux last night. I only have 4 hours in 2033 clocked anyway (completed LL as I enjoyed that more due to the better gameplay performance at the time) so wanted to replay the game with the new graphical upgrades and tweaks. Not let down! Game is a beast and runs a lot better than I recall 2033 running and looks it too. Everything seems to work flawlessly from 2.39:1 aspect ratio to the framerate and control mechanics.

I'm playing in Ranger Hardcore mode, it's tense and hard. No HUD and no pointers/hints gives added immersion especially at 3440x1440 and while the enemy does more damage so do you so it's a sweet balance. I've died a lot as I missed quick time events as there's no hints before they happen but that has been part of the fun discovering what to do!

Game was £8.74, bargain.

Is it 21:9 though I have seen reports of it being a stretched 16:9 not true 21:9 at all?

I loved both the original games having played through them twice each.

Is it worth it at all to purchase the redux versions, much different?

Metro 2033 redux absolutely

Metro LL redux no, makes very little difference.

Check out the comparison Vida at YouTube.

Didn't seem stretched to me.,..

Your right mate :)

I just bought the bundle @ 66% off & answered the question myself it seems some but not all & its barely noticeable TBH HUD elements are rendered @ 16:9 only so stretch slightly @ 21:9 but I cannot notice it so am happy.

2033 Redux in 21:9 looks stunning :D

I purchased the original 2033 when it came on Steam for £3, i tried to play it but just didn't like it.. ran like crap, felt like crap.

Despite my past experiences i purchased Redux anyway, people said it was a good improvement over the original. Now having given redux a go now I'm really enjoying it.

Game looks better, plays smoother and just feels much more polished from what i remember.

Just beaten LL redux, thoughts below:

+Good looking game
+Reasonable performance
+I quite liked the way lighting is used, including how you get blinded by bright lights etc
+Reasonable balance in terms of being able to deploy stealth or all guns blazing to clear an area

-Weapon system isn't that intuitive, it is difficult to weigh up the relative effectiveness of different weapons so you never know whether to swap or not. Luckily towards the end I stumbled across a shotgun with 10 round clip, zoom lens and silencer which seemed highly effective. Also annoying to have to swap or closely study to figure out what ammo type replacement guns have cos when modded up a lot of them look similar (i.e. not always obvious what a pistol/shotgun is). I never bothered with the pnuematic 'pumping up' weapons as there didn't seem to be any sort of tutorial on how to use them.
-Didn't feel like there were actually that many fights in the game? 2033 certainly felt bigger
-End section seemed way to easy because they give you a couple of OP weapons (sniper rifle & minigun), a bit of a let down really and certainly wouldn't rank in the top 3 toughest fights
-Annoying unskippable cutscene at the start before you get to the main menu
-Story seemed a bit difficult to follow at times, although to be fair I did spead my gaming over a few months which won't have helped

Can't say I'm likely to ever play it again. In terms of actual gameplay it kinda feels like the indoor sections of Far Cry, but the few outdoor sections are a big let down, unlike in FC.

Started going through 2033 Redux, to see if it was better than the original, but nope, its terribly optimised, and graphic glitches galore, get red or multi-coloured windows, and texture flashing here and there. :(

I'll stick to the originals.

I've got both redux versions, 2033 and Last Light. I haven't played 2033 redux yet, but IMO Last Light is probably the best looking game I've experienced so far. I haven't noticed any bugs or problems in LL either, so maybe consider trying that one out. :)

Might give it a go sometime, as only just finished the original off again a couple of days ago :)

Heres an example of the weird glitches, windows turning Red like this, or multi-coloured when im standing looking at them, from various spots.
