Metro Redux

Still playing 2033, about 5 hours in. Man, can the world really get that screwed up. I know it's just another 'end of the world' type game but the reality I still can't get used to.

How much better does Redux run then? Seen mentions of proper multicore support.

Runs awesome for me. Funnily enough, starting the game is the danger part. Where the camera pans through the tunnel it freezes 40% of the time. But the next time I execute it runs fine. Weird.

Runs fine for me R9 280x. Love how they introduced things from LL to 2033 menus and the like.
Mate I know it runs, but the question was what usage on gpus are you seeing.
Cos for me it isn't constant 99-96% (Tomb Raider or Crysis 3) but more range of 99-80%.Settings everything on max.,2xSSAA,motion blur off.

I'm in the Armory at the moment and there is no option to buy stealth or armor suit. Are they gone from the game?

I installed it on Saturday and got past the introduction for Metro 2033, but I'm not in the mood to play it as of yet.

Graphics settings are the same as Last Light; Maxed, PhysX on, AA turned off.

Had to turn this off as I get very tensed up playing this. I'm in the great library battling my way through the 'Librarians'. Good heavens it freaks me out. A 34yo man and it stress me out to the point of having to quit ever so often to chill out.

Library is possibly the scariest part, you can get through there without firing a shot ;).

I found the level called Defense to be the scariest level.

Yea this level is pretty scary, try staring down a librarian and see what happens ;) If you get too scared pull out the van helsing and blow them away. I just got to the end of this level and am about to go into the archives - it gets scarier from here

A couple of incendiaries should do the trick :D, they seem to be a lot tougher in the Redux, I remember when I played it first time around on the original, I didn't take a blind bit of notice of what Miller tells you and proceeded through the Library on a killing spree, the Auto Shotgun use to make short work of them and also one hit from the black ones now and you're dead.

I don't quite get this. Sometimes I stare them down, other times they appear from nowhere and attack me. Usually I get a sticky grenade and one of those coupled with a few blasts of the shotgun does the trick. But hell they're tough. Took 30-40 bullets to take one down just now.

Great game nonetheless. One of the most awesome moments are right at the start where you fall down the lift shaft onto a floor with awesome volumetric lighthing and smoke and one of those slowly walks towards you through the haze ..

I went completely trigger happy

just completed the game, loved it from start to finish.

Felt it got even better as the game went on.

What to do now tho? ages before metro 2034 I bet.

Anyone read the books? fancy reading 2034 but don't know if its a good idea with only playing the games upto that for story.

Read Metro 2033, it's a fantastic book, you really feel like you're there. Of course riding the Moscow Metro everyday helped for my immersion ;) I'm yet to read 2034 as it's only just come out on Kindle in English but will do so soon.

Is Last Light based on 2034?

no I think 2034 is a story after last light with different characters and above ground and 2035 is last light based but I definatly could be wrong (has been known :))

would like to find out tho if anyone knows? and if I can jump to 2034 book after playing games for story back drop?

How do you know if the patch has been applied? My Steam version has never updated since launch day so I don't think I have all those funky lighting and smoke effects on.

2033 the game does loosely follow the book, but the book obviously goes into much more character detail and encounters, and Artyom actually talks :) Read 2033, it's not a big book but it's definitely a good one.

EDIT: You're right, I just read this, slight spoiler alert for Metro 2033 but not really:

Huw Benyon also talked about the game’s plot, which isn’t based on the story detailed in Metro 2034:

Well, Metro 2034 isn’t strictly a sequel to Metro 2033. It’s certainly not written in a similar style. Dmitry (Glukhovsky, author and creator of the Metro franchise) described 2034 to me as his attempt at writing an art house novel. I’ve not read it because it’s still to get its English translation, but apparently the plot follows three different characters – none of them Artyom, who essentially stays at home, does the dishes and mopes about existentially. Right from the start it was apparent that Metro 2034 wasn’t going to be suitable material for a video game adaptation. The first one was perfect, because it was a combination of a road trip and a coming of age story. And Artyom’s two conflicting mantras that run through his head ultimately determine which infamous ending you got too. We obviously follow the canon ending for the premise of Last Light. The ability to change the ending in Metro 2033 is equivalent to… a glimpse into what could have been. An impossible dream, almost. Dmitry wrote the plot for Metro Last Light for us – it’s been another very collaborative project. It’s been a slightly different experience from 2033 where again, it’s a loose adaptation of the book, but thematically we already knew what we were working with.

I am with you on this one!

Was one of the most stressful moments in my gaming history, had to take breaks after nearly quick save.
