Metroid Prime 3

Just bought it from Blockbuster's, going to give it a whirl now!

edit: er.... Dark Samus gets out a capsule, then it blue-screens and the sounds just keep looping over and over ? :/

Well it's great, controls are very well intergrated for the wii, however I wouldn't say the graphics are nextgen by any means... basically looks just like metroid2 on the cube which isn't a bad thing to be honest :)

Atmosphere is top notch though, just like the other metroids... I did however forget just how tedious scanning everything could be

Managed to get the game to work, I got to the part where I tell the ship to land on the platform after I've just beaten off a load of aliens and their dropship. It's not a bad game at all, but vastly overrated in my opinion. Controls are nowhere near as precise as mouse and keyboard or even joypads, and it's very very linear. It's definitely a huge improvement over Red Steel though.

Are linear games really a bad thing?

The Edge review put me off a little - saying how the solitary exploration and lonely atmosphere that made MP great had been exchanged for a more traditional run around and shoot the aliens game. I'll certainly be picking it up, but am wary.

Wait wait wait.

This one is linear? Really? How far through are you?

Please tell me they haven't taken out my precious backtracking/"exploration". :(

Nope it still has the backtracking exploration, e.g you can get to this bit of an earlier level when you have this weapon or skill :)

It's as linear as MP1 and 2, which were very linear. Backtracking is still linear as you have to go from point to point to progress.

I knew you wouldn't like it knives :)

I do like the game. It's slick and the graphics are comparable to a lot of the 360 and PS3 titles. It's pretty much one of the better titles out this year but there's just so much that could be done better. Why not make the corridors larger, or have a few large open areas to split them up? There should be less emphasis on scanning everything as well, and a bit more responsiveness on the grappling hook as everytime I try to rip a shield off an alien, the others shoot me to hell and back.

The big question you have to ask yourself is this: if the game was played with a traditional controller; how do you think it would be rated? As far as I'm concerned, the control scheme is enough to turn a mediocre game into a very enjoyable one.

It's not an FPS, it's an adventure/exploration game.

It's a what ?

What should I be comparing this game to, if it's not really an FPS? It seemed like one to me, what with the first person field of view, a gun, aliens that shoot at you, etc. There is a distinct lack of exploration as well, unless you mean backtracking - of which if I wanted to have a good time backtracking, I'd play on Halo: Combat Evolved. :p

I will expand my views on the game when I've actually gone and completed it. I do know it's unfair to lay the smackdown on MP3 when I've only spent about two hours on it.

Its a First Person adventure/exploration game, it means you do more running about doing puzzles, than shooting bad guys :D

Tho while ive only played a bit of 1 and a small bit of 2, i think there is a lot more shooting in mp3, so i understand why people would think its an fps.

Oh right, gotcha. I just thought by linear it meant you'd only ever go one way. Metroid is backtracking dammit.

Got this Game today, been playing it since i finished work and i am really impressed, the previous gamecube titles did not impress me much and didnt really get into them but i love how well the game handles on Corruption, it doesnt feel like many other games as the control of your gun is very smooth and fluid no jerks even on a low battery level.

The graphics are the best i have seen yet on the Wii and the Cutscenes are really atmospheric especially on the first 2 boss encounters. I also really like the way that i can control the ship to check my status/kills/shots fired and the animation it fortakes using the equipment.

As mentioned previously by Knives, the search function is a bit boring at some points, searching for artifacts to increase your point system to unlock Extras can get a bit boring especially now im in the habit of scanning every room i locate into but i find it really helpfull in hard situations where i can scan my enemy and find his weakspots like in other metroid games i have experienced.

I would rate this Game more highly than Halo 3, but the only sad thing that lets this game down is the lack of Wifi online play, i was really looking forward to an online Wii shooter and thought that Metroid being one of the best shooters on the Wii at the moment would include this ability!

Sadly this is not the case but the single player will keep me going far longer than i will imagine due to me putting the game on Hard Mode and me scanning every area i go into, not forgetting my friends telling me how long it took to complete previous GC titles of the series.

well with a bit of luck other up and coming fps titles for the wii will go ooooh thats how we should do the controls !

ps the game rocks

Ive given it a good blast this evening.
Im upto the very start of the second planet.

Just some notes thus far:

Controls:
Not as good as people make out imo, it still controls like red steel, and so, im left spending most of my time wildly firing into thin air in the more tense situations. Plus, the lock-on is near useless, and a combination of that and the lack of control with general aiming makes charged shots and missles pretty pointless unless your against big targets or slow ones, as they hardly ever hit.
And why are the space pirates so small and thin! Hard to hit at times!:p.

Graphics:
Im not sure they are as good as people make out, but its definatelly the best looking Wii game. Not that thats an accolade considering whats on Wii. :p

Sound:
Good use of voice in the game, and the other sounds are as good too. Good amount of bass in the sounds that should have them.

Story:
Seems to be very story driven upto now, which is good imo. I like a good story in a game, helps keep me interested.

Gameplay:
Thus far, there is a bit of back tracking, but wether its just because the first planet+ship are small/starter areas, but there doesnt seem to be as much 'roaming' to do as there was in the other 2 MP games. Maybe that'll change now im on the second planet though?

Overall, im rating it 6/10 upto now.
Its still Metroid, and the story does have me intreagued (like how an asteroid can have moving tenticles :p), but somethings missing.
Maybe that'll change as i get further in? Hopefully.
