Mexican Grand Prix 2015, Mexico City - Race 17/19

It was very much clear he should have pitted for his first stop, earlier than he did.

Rosberg came out and immediately set a time 1s faster in the first section whilst Hamilton's tyres were dying on their arse. I guess the theory is a bit far fetched, but there we go :o

Hasn't Hamilton had more luck overtaking Rosberg than undercutting him? I can't recall the undercut working that often other than in changeable weather conditions.

It will be interesting to see what happens for the rest of the season. Would be interesting to see Rosberg win the rest.

He hasn't undercut him, as lead drivers have first pit call for that reason. the one time they did pit Rosberg before Hamilton who was leading. Hamilton basically lots his cushion which was rather large, under cut works well, as long as you dint hit the cliff at the end.

New tyres are massively quicker, it doesn't mean he should have pitted sooner.

Yes, but the track temp was much higher than previous sessions, so the perfect lap was probably much sooner than lap 30. In effect; did Rosberg hang Hamilton out until he knew his tyres were finished?

I say no, he's not that clever but it was clear that Hamilton's tyres were shot to the point he should have pitted 3 or 4 laps before.

Rosberg is extremely clever academically, it's when the pressure's on in wheel-to-wheel racing that he goes into flailing arms mode.

It's just Mercedes protecting their lead, and if there wasn't the bitter rivalry between Hamilton and Rosberg nobody would read anything into the safety pitstops, the drivers included.

I think Rosberg will win the next race as Hamilton drives like crap there most of the time.

The 10% was on the tyres they had taken off, not the ones in the car.
After checking tires taken off at the first pit stop and having a pit stop in hand Mercedes decided to pit both cars to be on the safe side, why risk falling off the cliff.

Following on from this, I don't think it unlikely that Hamilton was willing to risk it to try and get the win. He's already WDC, Mercedes have the WCC, there was nothing for him to lose.

Because Lewis' fans don't want to come to terms that Rosberg can beat Hamilton in a fair fight methinks :)

I don't think that's right. Even the most hardened Hamilton fan boy would accept that Rosberg can be quicker and beat him on his day in a fair fight.

The real problem for Rosberg is that 'on his day' only comes around in 20% of the races.

So far this year the two Mercedes have both finished in 14 races, and Rosberg has beaten Hamilton in four of them - one of which was Monaco, which isn't a fair fight because Rosberg has home advantage. If you include races with retirements then Vettel has beaten Rosberg as many times as Rosberg has beaten Hamilton.

But please, do tell us more about how Nico is the better driver.

*chortle*

You know, I've read some pretty thin pieces of justification over the years on here for why a favoured driver didn't win a particular race....and I have to say that I'd never yet seen someone go with anything quite that thin. Cheers Jedi, you've made my day :p

Yeap that win was pure rosberg talent.....lol....nothing to do with Merc totally screwing up the pit call. Also completely ignoring the fact that Lewis lives in the same building as Nico...

The difference is that Rosberg will generally be happy to sit in second whereas Hamilton will go balls out to try for the win.

And there's the fact that Hamilton is now 2/2 and Rosberg is 0/2 of course. :p:o

I dont think Nico is a better driver than Lewis. He cracks under pressure when Lewis doesn't. But by god Lewis Hamilton is such a whiney sore loser. I'd take Rosberg over him in any race.

The difference being that Hamilton moved to Monaco about five years ago, while Rosberg has lived there since he was a child and probably learned to drive on the Monaco race route.

So you think whenever Rosberg is home he goes out racing in the streets to learn the track? Not that it's even possible to drive the actual layout on normal day.

Rosberg on his day can be as fast as Lewis. He just hasn't got those days often. For me they're both average drivers with by far the best car on the grid.
