You mean the damaged car of Hamilton......

Also, I'll never understand why people believe more downforce = better chassis. Every track in the year isn't highest downforce track, the best chassis is the one that does the best across THE SEASON, not one track. Highest downforce might make you the best at 3 tracks, average at 10, poor in 7. Mercedes has had the best chassis for 4 years precisely because it's strong enough at the highest downforce tracks, and it's exceptional in both medium and low downforce tracks.

Playing a season on the F1 2017 game just demonstrates how many tracks have long straights which is this Mercedes car's bread and butter.

Fernando himself said that McLaren have the best chassis this year. Give them an engine, and they will fly.

I dont agree, I think he's driving the best he ever has, he has been more aggressive in his younger years, but he has matured and so has his driving.

Agreed, he is much more level headed now rather than going all out for the win. I think he was more aggressive today at the start knowing that he had plenty of points in the bag.

It's strong on straights, obviously, but it's strength is high speed corners really, the only place it struggles is lowest speed corners and if the tire temps get a bit weird at a few tracks in specific temps. But it generally has better tire wear throughout the year and again that is a trade off. Like in Cota, Japan in the esses, that Merc is downright amazing. Williams is a pure straight line car with terrible downforce, Merc is absolutely not a pure straight line car. It's an extremely versatile car that is really either brilliant or just very good basically everywhere.

Ocon's also pretty quiet about it, other than when his team mate is pushing him into the wall repeatedly...

Him outperforming his team mate in recent times also signifies his maturity like the commentators on Sky were saying. I won't be surprised to see him in a Ferrari seat in 2019. But that would mean playing second fiddle to Vettel. Maybe he can outscore him and be the number one driver. Hehe. We'll have to wait and see.

I think Ferrari, McLaren and Red Bull have better chassis than Mercedes but because of much weaker engines, they can't compete overall.

I think the Ferrari engine is on a par now, minus quail performance. Red bull and mclaren have a stronger chassis. Will be interesting next year.

Mercedes have the full package though - reliability, strategy, a solid team. They just need a better 2nd driver.

They do need a better driver. Bottas hasn't fulfilled the potential that he has shown, and that too against a driver well past his prime so he is fortunate to find himself in a Mercedes sear next year but I'm not so sure it was a wise decision from Mercedes to re-sign him so early.

He brings in reasonably consistent points for the constructors, and is seemingly a willing number 2. Not sure there is anyone else who would fit in so easily.

Congratulations to Hamilton on the WDC. The best guy won, and it was great to see him having fun at the end.

Not sure the crowd were bothered though; lots of cheering, but the crowd weren't reacting in the grandstands at all. Someone suggested canned cheering a race or 2 back, but surely that can't be the case? Mind you, after that bloody eagle in Texas I'll believe anything.

The first lap incident was all a bit of a concertina for me. Verstappen squeezed Hamilton, Hamilton had to ease out and Vettel just got caught out. The margins were tiny and just a racing incident, but had a big affect on the race, though it at least gave us something to watch. That said, Vettel needed a clean race more than anyone, and he isn't exactly helping himself by getting tangled up with others.

Lots of DRS and not an awful lot of great racing, but it wasn't bad. 5/10 if it wasn't for Hamilton's and Vettel's semi-entertaining drives through the field, and Alonso's awesome attempted defence gets it an extra vote - 7/10.

6 Renault-powered cars started the race. 2 finished. 33% finishing rate.
2 Honda-powered cars started the race. 2 finished. 100% finishing rate.

Who powers Alonso next year?

Don’t post on here much but just wanted to say good job by Hamilton this year. A bit of a shame Vettel/Ferrari threw it away a while ago as most would like to see it closer as it looked likely to be.
Ocon has done a solid job all year and would like to see him in a Merc or Ferrari seat one day.

Watching nightlight, can't help but seeing as Vettel already knew he would have to replace his nose he did what he could to Hamilton. this year really has shown up Vettel.

I guess you're right. And with Kimi largely underperforming, Mercedes isn't under any real threat with their current pair until the end of next year. So until then, I'd say their safe but beyond that is a bit of an unknown.

Lewis absolutely 100% deserved the WDC this year. Hikari Kisug mentions that Lewis was over over the hill - Sorry just Trolling. It is a well known fact that the majority of greats reach their zenith during their thirties - Lewis is still young in comparison. The hunger and team performance will dictate Lewis' future in the next 3 years. If the car is not at the sharp end of the grid, unlike Alonso, Lewis will walk.

Lewis deserves to be formally recognised as the most successful UK F1 driver in history, a fantastic achievement, enough said.
