I just don't understand why he moved off the racing line towards the centre and let Max past. He had one job, and he fluffed it.
I was thinking about it after my post above and to be fair, as far as racing instincts go he was also defending from Hamilton. I'm not sure in those brief milliseconds you can "undo" the years of training/muscle memory of defending against the car up the inside. So perhaps we're being a little harsh, dunno.

By all accounts Mercedes were expecting RB to win this one judging by their practice sessions (quali was a surprise/mistake) so I'm hindsight a P2 for Lewis is not the end of the world.

I agree, P2 was a result for them today, Hamilton 2nd and Bottas 3rd or 4th would have been a great result overall given the speed Red Bull had this weekend.

If Perez has not lost his crap when he came across a slow Tsunoda, RB would have likely been 1 and 2 at the start anyway.

It was clear this was a damage limitation race, and they lost any tactical options they had when they had 3 of the top 4 cars being RB!

They didn't look to be fast enough to take pole even before Pérez followed Tsunoda off for no reason.

Agreed.

Like the dutch race, I enjoyed the overall atmosphere and rated it accordingly. Shame Lewis didn't do better but that's just how it goes. It pains me to say it but I stick by what I said after the last race, Max is very likely going to get it this year.

I still want Lewis to win an 8th WDC and break the record books. But I do feel Max will take it, this seems to be his year. I'm not a gambling person but was wondering if it's worth putting say £50 to £100 at the bookies on Max? Does anyone know the best place to do that and roughly what kind of odds I could expect?

They're basically saying that his probability of winning the WDC is about 75%. If you think Max is gonna win, then now. If the points gap stays the same or increases as each race passes then the odds will shorten. It's just maths, that's slightly weighted in the bookies favour at the end of the day.

Where to do it? Dunno, I don't gamble. Just did Statistics as an A-level years ago...

is it better to make a bet nearer to the last race or now?

This is part of the gamble.

If next race sees Lewis DNF and Max win, then the odds will get even worse than they are now and you'll barely make anything

If next race sees Max DNF and Lewis win, then the odds will be much 'better' because it'll have all opened up again but equally it'll feel far less like 'a sure thing' to place £100 on Max to win the title if Lewis is 6 points ahead again with 3 races to go

As it is, the only reason you can even stand to win 30% of your stake back is because there's still a chance it'll all go wrong for Max - if he was far enough ahead for it to be a genuinely sure thing, you'd be looking at about 5%.

I find F1 betting generally offers crap odds - even before the first race of the season Max was about 2/1 and Lewis 1/2, because realistically it was unlikely to be anyone other than those two battling it out.

I still see the Max Fan boys on various social media are saying the MERC is the faster car and its all Max and not the car.. Just lolworthy..

If anything that Merc is a bit of a dog this season and Lewis is driving the wheels off it and I will say this again I'm not a Lewis fan.

Yeah, I agree with what you say. I don't think I'll bother then. Was worth finding out some info about it though so thanks anyway guys.

careful, you could get lynched by a pack of rabid Max fans... that Checo was so close to Lewis at the end tells me the RB was 101% the better car.... and most unbiased commentators said RB had best car at start of season and only lost races cos of luck/mismanagement/mistakes

Looking at how green the track seemed, I wouldn’t be surprised if Lewis gets an awful getaway and ends up p4 whilst Bottas bottles it in to T1 and lets Max sail past.
Ha, not quite P4 but I did call that Bottas would fluff T1 and let Max past :D

LOL... some of our posts dont age well.... Bottas was limp just before he got knocked around

I mean I did use ‘can’ and ‘hopefully’. It was never going to happen though, bottas is shocking in race conditions. This aged better…

Max will be P1 after turn 1.

Max deserves the championship, he’s driven well. He’s still really unlikeable, but he’s an excellent driver. If merc hadn’t punted them off they’d have it in the bag by now. RB have been fastest most of the year. Next year interests me to see where the teams end up as a result. Merc have barely upgraded the car, I’m actually surprised they’ve kept up as well as they have. RB have thrown upgrades at theirs.
