Hey.

Yes, I know its a Rover 25 with a bodykit, yes I've heard various opinions and read various reviews which hint at poor reliability.

Just wondering what fellow OCUK'ers thought of the MG ZR? :)

They are ok, the seats are crap, as they can be pulled apart by your hands with little effort, there is known reliability issues, not cheap to insure.

Yeah, just reading a review on Parkers.

Engine reliability is an issue apparently, shame, there not a bad looking motor, and quite cheap to pickup nowadays.

In red, I think they look quite purposeful. Other than I don't know because it's years since I drove one.

And they are more than just a 25 with a bodykit. They do differ mechanically as well. They arent particularly cheap to insure as said. The only thing the K series engine really suffers from is HGF, and that is easily fixed if you maintain your car and keep an eye on coolant levels and oil condition.

Well, I always maintain my cars, so that wouldn't be an issue. I just don't want an unreliable motor.

Mate just got a red ZR 160. Its like a 10 year old civic inside but its pretty nippy and seems to handle well. His was an 01 plate, with 85k on the clock for 1400. 900 to ensure when he was 21, 1 year ncb.

It's a K-Series with a bit of tuning... as people say, the HGF is an issue, but is easy to lower your chances of failure by keeping an eye on the coolant and oil every few days.

Mine is the new shape 1.4 trophy (AirCon, 17" wheels), on 21K at the minute and running perfectly... Low down lacks torque, but keep it above 3.5k RPM and it's nice and nippy...

Taking the pipe out from inside of the airbox is the first thing i'd recommend doing, increases throttle response and give's it more of an induction noise between 2-3k :)

Usual comments of a 25 with a body kit - I've driven both and the MG ZR feels substantially different

I had one for 18 months and it was huge fun to drive but cost a fortune in repairs and servicing. Reliability and build quality are big issues unfortunately - I kept it fully maintained at vast expense, let it warm up thoroughly and kept an eye on the coolant but the head gasket still failed and it fell apart around me

Other people have no problems at all though so I might have just got a Friday afternoon car! (I don't seem to have much luck as the replacement Astra Coupe also turned out to be a nightmare!)

I like MG/Rovers, but no a big fan of the ZR. Prefer the ZS styling. The KV6 engine in the ZS 180 is pretty nice and isn't known for HGF.

My friend has a ZR120 facelift, it grips like stink in the dry (could be the tyres) but the build quality is woeful. The engine is a peach though.

I'm a big fan of the k-series lump, light, revy, and good power for size.
The 200 and it's kin doesn't handle too badly either.
Shame the rest of the car is built like a mexicans pig hovel :S
