MGS4 online beta thread

Gah, to think these guys get paid loads for all their incompetence.. Not one of them thought, hold on if we do a simultaneous world wide release something might go wrong..

eh ? lol ha ha, are you serious mate ?, MGS isn't even out yet, you do know that don't you ?, this is a beta of the MGS online, most people are waiting for MGS4.

oh i know but going by this thread then konami are not to be trusted
i liked the other metal gears off course
but this online was the next big thing maybe things be ok once they can cope with demand
just some friends told me to get a ps3 just on this beta coming and gt5 demo

haha not to be trusted get back under the bridge with the rest of your troll friends.

To me this whole thing failed due to usa/europeans all registering on the same site = ddos on the server.

Plus americans need a serial to play but europeans don't. I imagine lost of people outside of europe grabbed it just to see if they can play.

All this must have given the server a rather good stress test.

Its a bit tuff for Konami to handle basically every single PS3 in the world trying to log on to their servers.

Whatever it is, Konami have screwed up, not too hard to see that tbh

I don't think that's very fair to be honest. It seems very much to me that giving the EU an open beta was a very late decision. The dates had already been set for the US beta, and Konami responded positively to feed back from us Europeans.

Whilst I think it was a little naive for Konami to underestimate the demand quite this badly, really it's not fair to say they've screwed up. At 23:00, the login servers were beginning to roll out. Over the space of thirty minutes the logins went from nigh on impossible, to instantaneous. Clearly the matchmaking servers just keeled straight over. This is all part of the beta process. A beta is there to test, bug test and stress test the capabilities of both the client AND server applications. Clearly the servers (or more likely the datacentres in which they're housed), weren't up to the job.

What this fundamentally means is that we'll probably see a very small version 1.02 update at some point later this week, with a minor data routing modification.

Instant improvement.

Anyway, rambling post over. There is no screwup. It's all part of the testing process.

It is a screw up, there is no other way to describe it. Late decision or not it doesn't matter, Europe is a big place and there was gonna be obvious demand. If you can't satisfy it, don't offer it.

People claiming it's a beta are also quite misinformed, whilst BETA is its official name, it's not to do with game errors or bugs because it's already been beta tested, this is a public demo, but BETA is an easy way to get out of trouble. Halo 3 was called a BETA, as was COD4, neither of those were Beta tests though, both had already been tested enough.

Konami have cocked up with the online aspects which shouldn't come as a surprise to anyone, their previous 2 offerings in the PES series are still the worst on Next-Gen consoles. This takes their tally to 3.

It is a beta (A beta version is the first version released outside the organization or community that develops the software, for the purpose of evaluation or real-world black/grey-box testing.), the purpose of this one is to provide stress testing on the servers which is exactly what it did, they gathered the data and will now work to improve it.

In fairness to Konami in regards of PES, yes the games netcode was beyond shocking but the actual authentication servers and match making servers (the part Konami is actually responsible for) function fine - it's a shame the PES developers cant program netcode for ****. Previous MGS games have both worked fine online so when it comes around to release day I'm expecting pretty good results.

They are a month away from the release of the game, the fact that MGS4 is Sony's biggest exclusive yet and Konami aren't even using PSN is ridiculous. Their Konami ID system is beyond a joke and NokkonWud is right, it's a complete mess.

I actually think PES6 on 360 was brilliant for playability online and they really nailed the netcode. The only problem was that it would pause for a split second every time before you scored. What the hell happened with PES2008 I'll never know.

I hope they fix it in time though as I am really, really looking forward to MGS4. I still think MGO could be really entertaining if they sort it all out.

Im guessing i cant login on MGO because its not live yet? Just want to make sure its not a problem with my ID.

The email i got from Konami says:

u got an e-mail? I aint got one, registered sunday. oh well cba with this much more guess i'll wait till after release before i buy it

There's quite a few on here I'm guessing haven't played many mmrpgs.

My days of playing EQ, Eve, CoH and EQ2 tells me anyone sitting there honestly thinking they'll be playing within hours of the when the devs have said the server is coming back up is being a tad naive.

The whole not using PSN confuses me though, will the final game not be on PSN?

If launch day comes around and these problems persist then I'll agree, this has been a complete mess and screw up. But if it works fine then this will have been a success and achieved exactly what they set out to - stress their servers. Who knows why their not using the core of PSN, I can only assume it's because Konami think they can provide something PSN can't and its not a Sony game so their free to do what they want.

One thing this does show is why console developers should not do open beta's, all it has done for them is generate bad publicity and it's absolute no wonder that the likes of Sony have decided to keep Home internal so far.

That's the most productive thing I've read in this thread and I think I'm with you on that. I downloaded the client at the weekend thinking I'd patch and get an account later. I don't think I'll bother.

Ultimately I don't really care about the beta, a taster would have been nice but its not worth going grey over it.

I just hope Prologue turns up in the next few days to help pass the days till official launch :p:)
