MGS4 online beta thread

Gah, to think these guys get paid loads for all their incompetence.. Not one of them thought, hold on if we do a simultaneous world wide release something might go wrong..

Perhaps they did - that might be the reason they used the word BETA all over the place.

Are you really so retarded that you expect a beta not to have issues? What is wrong with all of you? If this was a final release all of your moaning would be justified (unfortunately), but this is a ****ING BETA!! None of your moaning is justified so all of you shut the hell up and grow a pair. I come into this thread for information on what's going on with MGO, not to see post after post of you freaking girls whining about why your little lives have been affected by Konami's "incompetance", and I'm sure (actually I hope) I'm not the only one.

We all know you are pathetic, so you don't need to keep reminding us.

Now please, can we keep this thread on track? I really don't want to have to browse through 20 pages of crap before getting to any useful info.

Why don't you hold it down and chill out?

No need to be insulting, especially to people who do not post here much. I find the comments in your post more offensive then any of the people "whining". Possibly you should edit them etc before you earn a holiday.

It never ceases to amaze me how rude people here are to "newer" members compared to "established" members.

although thats a tad over the top, i kinda agree...

MGS4 is gonna be the big release and from what i've read MGO is bundled free, so if on the off chance its a flop then its not so big a deal is it?

no one is forcing anyone to try the beta and noones gonna make you play MGO once you've finished what looks to be the best MGS yet...

(OT: really quick... RP2000 you're a heroes fanboy aint ya, is the series that starts on thursday the continuation of that 11 show stint that was cut short by the writers strike? i thought that had already been on? (i've seen it anyway can't remember by what means i thought it was on the telly)

My apologies - if I came across that I was only singling out newer members that was not my intention, it was directed at all people who are moaning incessantly about MGO.

You may complain about me, but as far as I'm concerned it is completely hypocritical. The amount of anger in this thread in general directed towards a small delay in them playing the beta is beyond ridiculous, but hey if you want to complain about my posts go right ahead, I care not - I think it needs to be said. If I earn a "holiday" then so be it, someone needs to at least try and force some sense into this retarded thread.

And NokkonWud: I think it is you who are misinformed. You may be correct that this is not a beta in the strictest sense, but it has been labeled as a beta and not a release and that implies that it is not ready for full release yet. So whether or not you decide that this is a release and konami have screwed up is irrespective of the truth that this IS a beta and is not ready to be labelled as a release, so expect issues.

Anyone who cannot understand that is beyond hope.

If launch day comes around and these problems persist then I'll agree, this has been a complete mess and screw up. But if it works fine then this will have been a success and achieved exactly what they set out to - stress their servers. Who knows why their not using the core of PSN, I can only assume it's because Konami think they can provide something PSN can't and its not a Sony game so their free to do what they want.

The thing is as far as I can see they haven't stressed any servers only those who thought the were getting a nice BETA after waiting for the store update. These people who stayed up late on the 21st to play the game those who spend nigh on 7 hours downloading then immediately patching (using their own bandwidth mostly) the game. How can the servers have been stress tested when no one has played on them?

As for not using PSN that is clearly a marketing ploy to increase their marketing database information. If you read the terms and conditions they have basically stated in their (60 page T&C) that once they have your details they are under no obligation to delete them even if requested even after you have deleted the game from your system. (Which I'm quite sure goes against EU and UK laws on privacy but I'm no lawyer.) They also stated that they can use your information for marketing purposes.

When I say the server's I mean the authentication ones, the one's which will be cordinating the online experiance (and eventually the match making when they get the first set working :p) which will have been "stressed" when several hundred thousand people tried to connect to it on Sunday night - so you don't actually need to be playing the game for them to be getting the important data they need.

As for the marketing ploy idea, I was thinking that this may be a cheeky attempt to force their new service on users as they know that they've got a massive release on their hands with the potential to pick up millions of subscribers to their service who are forced to use it if they want to play online - not unsimilar to a certain other developer who not so long ago released a multi million selling game which allowed them to force their new content delivery system onto their consumers. We'll have to wait and see though ;):p

Not interested in complaining, I will let the mods do what they care to do. Just meant you should fully start out your swearies and remove anything that can be construed as personal attacks, that's all.

Metal Gear Online Beta Postponed, Extended

+ Posted by Brandon Laurino // Konami Online

Hi all! As many of you already know, the Metal Gear Online Beta, originally scheduled to launch today, April 21st 2008, has been postponed. Due to this, we’ve also put a hold on our regularly scheduled Metal Gear Mondays content on the PS Blog, to bring you the latest news.

Extraordinary levels of traffic from all over the world have caused the MGO Beta servers to destabilize, as such, the service has been unable to run. Because of this, we have made the following changes to the schedule.

The MGO team in Japan is currently working around the clock to stabilize the servers, and is aiming to launch gameplay this weekend of April 26th. We must note, given the current situation, this is subject to change.

To compensate for the delay, the MGO Beta period has been extended a week, now ending on May 11th. IMPORTANT NOTICE: Please note that your MGO Beta UPVCs will only be valid up until May 5th 2008, so please make sure to register them by then.

Please stay tuned to konami.com, the PS Blog, the Konami ID site, and Konami Japan’s MGO teaser site for all the latest MGO Beta status updates. If you need assistance, please contact us via http://www.konami-data.com/support/ and you can email us at [email protected].

We would like to apologize for this inconvenience, and thank you for your patience. We know that you can’t wait to get started with Metal Gear Online, and we truly appreciate your enthusiasm, as well as your participation in the MGO Beta test – which really helps make MGO the best it can be!

Thank you!

Yeah i would believe so, I cant see a reason why they wouldnt let you download the client after the beta had started?

You need to go to PS store and download the MGO beta client - this will need updating once you installed it. To update the client, you need to start the game and follow on screen prompts

Then the hard part - get a konami id from konami

for a konami id use this guide - http://forums.overclockers.co.uk/showthread.php?t=17866673

Ah ok, Thanks very much.

Might download once i've seen how it runs on my brothers PS3. He still hasn't managed to play it yet.

Hypocritical is when you come into a forum and start bleating insults at everyone then claim to be on the moral high ground. I'd hate to see you in the beta threads on the MGO forums, or the various dedicated gaming forums on the net, you might die from an aneurysm or something - since you're so compelled to lash out in indignant anger that you wouldn't care if you got suspended for it or not. Isn't that just as bad as the guys who complained about the beta delay? Get your priorities sorted.

I wouldn't call it indignant anger, I just thought these psychos needed a bit of a stern reminder that it's a BETA. Is that so unreasonable? Since you seem to be defending them perhaps you want another 10 pages of girlish whining in this thread? I for one would rather not. And I would expect that kind of retarded posting on dedicated gaming forums but not here, so sue me if I try to reset the balance a little. If a mod decides I'm out of line then he can suspend me, but I am surprised that no one else tried to inject a little sanity into this thread.

is this beta every going to come out? It's looking very unlikely.. all that hassle

See, this is what I'm talking about.

Were you asking a question? If so, the answer is: yes, it is going to come out. I'm sure Konami are wracked with guilt that they have put you through so much hard times. But if we all band together, we might just get through it.

Be strong :)

The game has already been beta tested nero120, this was a public release demo (they just call it a beta - it's no different to Halo 3 or CoD4). Magazines have been playing it for a while.

All this has shown is that Konami were under prepared with its online architecture, system demand and that is where they have proven to be no different from what they've offered with their last 2 online systems.

You're defending it like it's the game that's the problem and is being beta tested, it's already been beta tested and was open for magazine previewers to play for some time now. This isn't the first chance people have had to play it. As a result, it is a **** up.

I'm not saying they've done nothing wrong, just that the response from the public has been overly dramatic. I never thought it was the game that was at fault, but the management (or rather, the mis-management) of the beta project that was at fault. Perhaps they are using bandwidth as a cover for a more fundamental problem? Who knows. The point is, this is a beta release as that is what it has been labeled as, and all this vitriol is far too over the top. Everyone should have known what to expect (especially if they've had difficulties with previous projects). For crying out loud, MGO will be awesome and we are lucky to be getting it, so chill the hell out everyone! Would you rather they see your ungrateful comments and say "right screw you ps3 owners, we're going to xboxland!"?

The one thing that does irritate me though is why Konami feels the need to make us all have new IDs. Don't we all already have unique IDs that we can use????

I think it's an accumulation of anger for all the delays encountered on the PS3, from the actual delayed release of the console, to the delay of several important ports, delays to the important exclusives (Ratchet & Clank, Uncharted and Gran Turismo Prologue all delayed, then in the future we already know of GT5, MGS4 and Home) so it's probably an accumulation that yet again, PS3 owners are being screwed over.

Peoples patience in what Sony are offering is waining. This was evident before the launch of the PS3 and although it's gotten slightly better now that the console is where it should have been on launch with a lineup of games, people are still getting sick of Sonys delays. Many people (myself included) still haven't forgiven them for GT4 PSP, a premise and promise from Sony that single handedly sold a LOT of PSP consoles when there was nothing on it.

OK, I see what your saying, but is it any worse than the patience that 360 users have over all the hardware issues on their machines, theres people out there on their 5th machine, thats takes real dedication if you ask me to support a company like that, you say "Peoples patience in what Sony are offering is waining", how you would some up the diligence of many 360's users ?,

The problem you have with stuff like this is that it's really quite hard to define public opinion, especially in forums like these as most of the time it is wrong to assume that our opinions on here (the interent) are a majority voice because often they are not, I have quite a few friends with PS3's and many don't even know whats happening in the industry, I say things to them like "dude in-game XMB could finally be here in the next update" and often they are like "eh? in-game what ?" lol, seriously, all they care about is going down town, picking up a game, coming home and having fun, they are the marjority, the people that buy into branding, and as we know Sony Playstation is a very big brand name.

I'm amazed how even in this thread you manage to bring up 360 hardware reliability. Nokkon makes some good points makes it appear you want to debate as if he's a 360 fan boy who requires a swipe.

Do you really want to turn this into a debate about 360 reliability, after-all you seem to be making a lot of one sided points, or was it just an off the cuff fan boy tirade? I'm happy to debate this here if you want?

No I didn't think so, any chance we keep it on topic?

jesus christ **** off, why every-time someone brings up reliability on the 360 to make a point about something or to use it as an analogy some rampant fan boy gets so defencive ?, it doesn't have to turn into argument unless people make into one, kind of like what your doing now actually, now mate if you got a problem with me email my trust.

Yeah - except he's right. There was totally no reason to bring it up, you're just making everything into a personal black against white war with those 360 comments. Again.
