Merc doesn't seem to be porposing nearly as much as previous races — is that just because this track is slow or have they actually made some progress?

Merc finally decided to turn up this season? Only FP and as usual you cant look too much into it, but sure looking like they are genuinely comparable with the Ferrari's and RBR. could make for an interesting race if they can carry this pace through.

still looks bouncy on the straights, not as bad as other races, maybe they aren't/don't need to run the car right down the deck here? Be good if they have started to get a handle on their issues

They've got a lower downforce rear wing (as do most teams here) which might go some way to helping. There are other changes to the car too (front wing) and probably some other bits that aren't as obvious. The track is quite smooth in the high speed areas too.

They are still porpoising though - well Hamilton was onboard a few minutes ago - but clearly not as much as previously.

It's too early to say whether they've made genuine progress given it's just one track, but it looks better.

Edit: OK the above was a few minutes premature - Russell with some terrible porpoising now, so I guess they've started pushing the limits a bit more.

Cool thanks. I guess we won't know until the end of Q3 tomorrow (assuming they get into Q3) and obviously the next few races.

That slow-mo replay of Russell just now looked pretty bad mind.

Oh, and Latiffi stacks it (yet again).

Gotta say this circuit is really lacking something, other than being in "Miami" (but the dog end at that) there really is little else to it, its the Milton Keynes of race circuits.

the saving grace may be the red bull corner, thats gonna catch a few out for sure. hopefully the racing makes up for it!

Don’t think the drivers think much of it going by their interviews!

Usually at a new track they’re all like ‘it’s amazing, awesome new track!!!’ No matter how sucky it is but they’ve just interviewed Checo and Lando and they both pretty much said the same thing. Off the racing line it’s awful and there won’t be good racing.

Have to agree.

Every driver that wandered off the racing line in FP1 and FP2 ended up spinning off with lack of grip.

I fully expect DRS passes to be the highlight of the weekend as no one will want to dive down the inside of any other corner where there’s no grip as they just won’t get it stopped / have poor traction.

RB replacing the gearbox on Max’s car and Bottas has lost one from FP1 too. Going to be some tasty penalties later in the season :o

Sainz will end up sacked if he carries on as he has been.

This is interesting from Seb:

Got to admit, it is a bit odd. The rule is clearly stupid as it apparently still allows rings, watches and bracelets....
