Microsoft acquire Activision

Bad news for the UK if the CMA doesn't change course

Microsoft's CEO has said the CMA will not stop the acquisition and if the CMA wants to continue to block it then Microsoft is prepared to use the Nuclear option - that would mean after the acquisition is complete, No further Activision published games would be for sale in the UK and Gamepass would no longer be available in the UK

So potentially in a year or two, UK gamers will need a VPN to get their call of duty fix and a VPN to use gamepass

Yeah right. That's a lot of words he never said :p

CMA are going to look daft when the others approve it and the real big boy backhanders start flying around and they're told to get in line :p

Call of duty fix? So people will need a month's worth of VPN subscription

Tbh I think eventually after a lot of messing around the deal happens will it be end of playstation? No? Will it lift Xbox in the right direction? No? Xbox needs studios not a 69billion dollar deal to bring them back. I would like to use my series x at some point bit of a waste of money at the moment keep thinking something will come good but it's been a disaster :(

Im cool with it anyway COD is kind of stale and Blizzard lost its quality when Activision and old Bobby Kotick jizzed all over it.

He didn't say that at all. He said to see what happens. It was Michael Pachter who suggested MS should remove Activision Blizzard games from Game Pass, but that guy is a muppet anyway.

Xbox needs its current studios to actually put out some decent games - not the flops, or gamepass filler they’re currently churning out. :)

If the sale eventually does go through - it doesn’t really matter? (Cod has been stale for a long time). They need to spend some cash on their already owned studios to put out some games that arent complete turds.

I hear they've got 69 billion dollars lying around they could invest in their studios :)

Only CMA left now, will they just bypass the UK if no movement?

CMA update

CMA has issued a statement after the US court decision:
"We stand ready to consider any proposals from Microsoft to restructure the transaction in a way that would address the concerns set out in our Final Report.

The deal will go through, the CMA have agreed a stay of litigation.

The cma know they look like fools now so will come to some quick agreement with Microsoft that will likely mean they will accept any concession.

Cma will then claim success at their deal.

Microsoft will agree to the above as it saves them a small fortune going through the courts and speeds the process up.

Alternatively cma could dig their heels in go through courts then look very silly when they get laughed out the court.

Yeah, probably second on their list after the cluster bombs being shipped to Ukraine.

"Rishi, now let's get down to the serious business of Microsoft buying that Call of Duty studio".
You just know Sunak is a "gamer" and when playing racing games he'll tilt the controller

Not so fast MS... lol...

It's bluster, part of the game of trying to make themselves not look incompetent.

Give it by end of August, MP's will be having words in the background the cma will accept the smallest of concessions they'll make a big deal about them being winners, ms will stay stum to get the deal done quickly.

If it goes to court of appeal and 99.9% of the world that have an interest in the deal have passed it, the cma wont have much of an argument and they'll have some huge egg on their face, parliament will shut the CMA or restructure it due to the embarrassment caused.

Parliament want to project an image of less red tape than others such as the EU and the CMA have undone this perception in 1 fell swoop.

Personally I'm not fussed whether the deal goes through, I think ms are paying too much money for Activision and I don't think it will change the landscape of gaming one way or the other.

Doesn't the deal have to complete soon or be renegotiated?

I'm not fussed on the outcome either (have all the platforms) but have really enjoyed how MS have trashed the Xbox brand in their desperation for this deal. :D

Yeah it's next week or week after I think, but apparently they can get the deal done without the cma approval for now.
