Microsoft acquire Activision

From what I am reading it’s got nothing to do with exclusivity. It’s about the CMA stopping MS monopolising future cloud streaming services - which they, and everyone else it seems (including MS) believe is the future of everything. ‘To protect innovation and choice’.

This sets out to explain it better than I ever could https://www.gov.uk/government/news/...protect-innovation-and-choice-in-cloud-gaming

If they are that bothered about cloud gaming why didn't they stop the sale of Onlive and Gaikai to Sony?

They should invest in studios that can actually make games that would be a start and im sure more beneficial to xbox
I don't think they don't have talented developers it's more that once they get taken over by Microsoft they suck up the generous paycheques very much take the foot off the pedal. Regardless of what people say humans need a touch of preasure to get the best out of them.

What possible advantage was the UK aiming to get by being the first to rule on the takeover?
Its blocking it so it doesn’t need an advantage - this isnt a negotiation.

The EU might be swayed by MS trash talk but that’s never worked with the UK.

In fact if the EU decision was 100% political I wouldn’t be surprised.

The UK put itself in a position in which it gave both the US and EU a "get out of jail free card" so they could save face with Microsoft at our expense, even if the US or EU had no intention of approving the takeover.

The UK had nothing to gain by calling the shots first.

You’re making the mistake of thinking about this like a forum argument. Its not political and its not about sides. What the EU or US do is rightly irrelevant to what they think is best for the UK.

I’d imagine that UK plc is worth more to MS than getting this deal through for their gaming division but we’ll see.

Why do we need to save face for an american corporation? It's not like they pay U.K taxes and are a friend to the U.K, they funnel most of the profit through Ireland. People wanting national governments to bend over for big companies is kind of sickening.

100% backhand deal more like it.

EU saying that Microsoft's offer of 10 year free licensing deal is fair, is just stupidity at its finest.

Bad news for the UK if the CMA doesn't change course

Microsoft's CEO has said the CMA will not stop the acquisition and if the CMA wants to continue to block it then Microsoft is prepared to use the Nuclear option - that would mean after the acquisition is complete, No further Activision published games would be for sale in the UK and Gamepass would no longer be available in the UK

So potentially in a year or two, UK gamers will need a VPN to get their call of duty fix and a VPN to use gamepass
