Microsoft buying Activision (World of Warcraft, Call of Duty etc)

I’m in 2 minds over this:

Activision/Blizzard have been in a bad place for a while now and could perhaps use some fresh direction. However, should that come from Microsoft?

That’s debatable but then they have been in a good place recently IMO and they’ve not trashed the other IP they have bought yet and they’ve had Minecraft for awhile now and put out some other good games recently.

I'm in only one mind about it really, which is that its much too soon for me to say whether its a good thing or a bad thing. All I can say is that no other buyout in history in any industry has been hugely detrimental to my life and I dont believe that this purchase by Microsoft will be either. Life goes on and my entertainment and life is largely unimpacted by any buyout so overall, maybe all will be bad from now on in for gaming or maybe it will be good from now on in gaming or maybe it will make no real difference. Too early for me to say but one thing is fairly certain, it wont make much of an impact on my gaming (other than perhaps meaning that I can get many games on Gamepass for a few quid instead of £40-50 per title.)

LOL! Me taking it personally? it was you that got upset by the article...LMFAO.

You really could do with getting a better understanding of emotions if you think my comment was indicative of me being "upset"

But nevertheless, I think what I think of the article, you think what you think, neither of us is going to change the others mind and to continue debating the articles content is a waste of time, so I would suggest that you and I simply cease wasting our time with that conversation and move on with other things as I dont see any further need for us to talk with each other. One of the beauties of us being our age is that we can pick and choose who we interact with :)

Must admit I thought they would keep it going, it brings in too much money not to. I think what they will hope instead is that maybe the COD games being on gamepass and thus being considerably cheaper than buying them on Playstation will , over time, cause more xbox hardware sales. I could imagine xbox owners rubbing it in PS owners faces that they have CoD for a few quid rather than £50+

Sony still have to reveal "Spartacus", but they can't afford to go for the same business model as Game Pass. They'll have to think outside the box.

Even the leaks of Spartacus paint a picture of a service that's much inferior to gamepass.

Microsoft is playing a long game here - Sony still has the mindshare from last gen to lean on, but I can foresee Sony being in real trouble come next gen

sony has nothing that competes with gamepass ? if so they likely won't be a competitor by 2024

The Xbox is only really worth it for Game Pass (assuming you don’t have a decent PC or just want to play on the TV), or if you only play generally available games. PS5 sells more units because you get access to the usual mainstream stuff plus some of the best AAA games out there.

Game Pass is great, especially with more variety being added, but if I can’t play God of War, HZD, Last of Us, Uncharted, etc. then PS5 is still the pick.

If Sony don't want to allow a foothold in the Japanese market which Microsoft have never been able to break into with any success. Expect to see something big like Capcom getting picked up by Sony.

Why do people think Sony have to react to this? There’s no certainty that this is the future of gaming where we subscribe to play with console manufacturers owning the games industry.

Some of you are so convinced with nothing to back it up.

O_O If a Corporation doesn't keep growing and increasing their price then in the eyes of shareholders they have failed. You also need to be completely ******* incompetent at your job as Head Of Sony Entertainment division not to react to this market grab from Microsoft.

cheap subscription vs paying 50+ for a game most people will be bored of within 12-48hours of playtime.

how can you compete without a similar service?
only physical games and allowing trade ins?

for all the sony exclusives people harp on about it's like 5 or 6 games, personally never played them won't miss them :P

apart from GT they should bring it to pc....
