Microsoft Flight Simulator X

hey guys i've installed the demo but there is no training given and it leads to hours of frustrating dives into the sea. Does the full version come with a proper tutorial on

A) how to get the thing off the ground?

B) how to keep it off the ground?

C) how to land it?

thanks

Yes it comes with tutorials for most things, but if you're using a joystick, unless you've got a severe bout of Parkinsons then you just throttle up, wait til you've got enough speed up and pull back.

I managed to do all three last night so ordered the game.

I'm inbetween games at the moment bored of FPS and MMOs and i'm looking for something enjoyable and educational.

Microlight is really easy to take off and land virtually anywhere including the beach :D

Found this on a forum, thought it was quite interesting. I wonder how an overclocked Q6600 Go would do at about 3.2 GHZ ?

I've a 150 gig raptor arriving tomorrow, at same time installing Vista 64 bit- then FSX + SP1 - will let you know if I think the Raptor makes a difference or not to current setup using a 7200.10 .. FSX doesn't half have a LOT of small files -hence I think Raptor may be quite useful - could be an expensive mistake though lol !

Well I would not say its a pointless chart. Yes its not the most informative I agree, but I am reading it as if its a comparisson between the actual cpu's on the same setup. Thats what I hope anyway.

I'm woundering about this game, does it really need a joystick? With keyboard all the planes reaction very slow and after that erratic.
I couldn't even take off with a 747 from a major airport without driving off the runway and taking some trees with me.

Get a joystick mate - I can't understand how people can "fly" without one. That said, a jumbo won't be the most responsive plane if you try to fly it like an F16 :). Try out the Extra 300, that has very sensitive controls, if you find a lag on that, there is something wrong.

I tried the twin prop beech plane last night in the demo and whilst the microlight was a breeze with the mouse yoke/keyboard the twin prop was really sensitive to minute mouse movements it was nearly impossible to keep the plane level and straight.

I'm going to get a joystick. Are the instructions clear on how to set them up?

Very clear. There is a who area where you can set up the alignments, as well as set up keyboard shortcuts. The other advantage of a joystick is that you can use some of the buttons as shortcuts. Make sure it has a hatswitch so that you can pan your view with your thumb.

don't know if this has been posted before found it now on another site.

If it has sorry but new readers might find it interesting...

Apparently it's how to get the best playabilty from your card.

Of course it doesn't take into account CPU but it might help those looking to tweak their FSX for FPS gain.

Can I ask what joystick is best or you think is good guys?

They range from 12€ :) to 159€

I don't want to spend 12€ +p&p then have to spend another 30€ later. What are the minimum amount of buttons required for a good FS experience?

The 8800 setting have a res of 25x16, unless you running a 30" Dell or like then your not going to have this res. but it's a good guide for "rule of thumb" obviously you'd need a bit of real world "tweaking".

Ms SideWinder2 is great joystick and is ready to go with FSX out of the box. I got FSX on Tuesday and was up and flying without and config of buttons needed.

Just wondering if anyone is using TrackIR4 with FSX? I have tried everything but cannot get a stable view from the cockpit - the screen keeps 'jumping' about once a second despite keeping my head perfectly still. Anyone else have this problem? Thing is it works perfectly fine in other games e.g. GTR2 etc. Thanks in advance...

excellent joy stick, have had my sidewinder 2.0 since it came out, the force feedback on it is ace.

Had the first version with the dial throttle on it before that, only had to part with it due to it using the old fashioned port instead of usb about 2 years back lol that was knocking on 4+ years old then.

Shame ms dont seem to do any new controllers for the pc user base.
