**** Microsoft Surface Pro 4 Thread ****

Noticed encryption was on, decided to turn it off and load times has significantly increased, even with the poorer Samsung drive. Now my SP4 feels like it's truly flying.

That's interesting about the encryption. Mine also has the Samsung MZFLV256 and it was on my list of things to do to work out why the write speed seemed so slow...

Could you post a benchmark of yours now you've turned bitlocker off?

While I was uploading this, Chrome crashed :p.

Write speeds still seem to be on the low side, but seems better in some areas.

EDIT: Whoops, forgot to resize, silly 200% scaling.

Hmm, I think something must be slowing the write speed down. Think I'll try a different benchmark...

Yeah, I think as I'm used to SATA2 or 3 SSDs I was maybe expecting a bit more from a based PCI-e drive.

Overall though it's something of a step up from my other laptop which is a Lenovo T61 I got second hand around 4 years ago!

It's probably just the way of how the SSD controller works. The Toshiba one offers better write speeds. Looking at iFixit it seems easy to replace the drive, but actually opening up the SP4 on the other hand...

Still having WiFi issues here. Slows right down.

Only fix so far is uninstalling the WiFi adapter and restarting. Works full speed again.

Seems to last about two days or so each time.

Had an update yesterday and it seems to have removed the Intel graphics control panel. However, my custom resolutions and graphics power profiles still seem to be there so don't really have a need to reinstall it again.

The update sorted my graphical issues with Premier.

...

But now my multi touch / touch settings are gone.. wtf? The options are now a lot less than before, and I'm unable to do any of the swipes etc. What gives?

Anyone use a screen protector on their surface pro 4? (or previous?)

I'm soon to buy a SP3 and think I will apply one, but is guerilla glass really that strong/scratch proof?

I've noticed when going from a dark screen to a light screen (e.g. this forum to google) the brightness auto adjusts. I'm pretty sure I've turned off everything in the settings related to auto adjust - what else could it be?

Have you tried the regedit here...

1.Press Windows button. Search for regedit. Open it

2. Navigate to the following path:

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\ControlSet001\Services\mrvlpcie8897

3. Find the item labeled “TXAMSDU”. Double tap and modify the value from 1 to 0

4. Restart the machine

Edge. It doesn't happen with Chrome and Firefox.

I use Firefox. It happens outside of internet browsing too, such as going from windows explorer to my desktop (which is a dark background). Going to have another look through the settings to see if I've missed anything.

Edit: Think I solved it! Had to install the Intel HD Graphics Control Panel and disable the power saving setting. Hopefully works fine now, was incredibly annoying.

I'm quite tempted to pick up the base spec M3 version as I'm in the market for a new laptop since my current one is 5 years old. I have a desktop PC so don't need anything too powerful when I'm out and about. I had a play with a non pro Surface3 which I also considered but found it a litte bit laggy in general use even just in simple things like searching for programs on the start menu so I think the Pro 4 version would justify a couple of hundred pound more for the step up in performance.

Performance wise it's around 70% as quick as the i5 so shouldn't be noticeably different in general use and I love the fan it doesn't have a fan. It's a shame they don't offer the m3 with 8Gb RAM and the 256Gb SSD though as 4Gb/128Gb is slightly lower than I'd like.

Has anyone on here bought the Core m3 version? What's the fan noise like on the Core i5 model as I hate the thought of a tablet with an audible fan!

During browsing and video watching, the fan stays off. The only time I notice the fan being on is if I decide to load up a game and the TH2 update.
