**** Microsoft Surface Pro 4 Thread ****

Surely it does at least four hours on battery web browsing? I had an i5 on the bench recently and I'm sure we hardly plugged it in to the mains all day.

Anandtech battery numbers http://www.anandtech.com/show/9727/the-microsoft-surface-pro-4-review-raising-the-bar/7

ask around, the i7 in particular doesnt have good battery life

i had one, and my friend also has an i7 and says same as me.

you can get max 4 hour battery life when browsing the net etc.

start writing code, uploading/dowloading files through dropbox and watch your battery life plumit in 2-3hours .

For gaming it will last just below 2 hours as expected.

Also. those graphs dont show i7 model and what else they did in the sp4 or what apps etc where running in the backrgound.

i imagine a typical user would have a few browsers open and maybe skype or something else too so its hard to grasp on those graphs really.

Also depends on what websites you view. youtube? facebook? playing a html5 game? writing docs on google docs?

Was they downloading anything?

I get 4/5 hours on my i5 SP4 with basic browsing (Facebook, OcUK) and a bit of YouTube/Twitch. At average I'm on 3 tabs. Only significant cloud storage syncing I do on it is just OneDrive and even then it's very small files. I do have the screen brightness on around 40% though.

doing what?

what model u have?

the i7 at least cant do 6hours. barely 3 hours of browsing on 3-4 tabs mate

i5/256/8, had it since launch.
I'd say 6 hours is average for me, albeit limiting the CPU has helped quite a bit (no difference in performance for me as well), might be worth a shot if you haven't already?
I'm usually using some of the Office programs, Firefox, OneDrive and occasionally Spotify.

Are you guys using the battery saver button? On my i5 it makes a world of difference. I use it all the time when on battery except when the screen needs brightening. I get about 6 hours average with normal use that way. I can steam stream games from my desktop for about 4 hours using it.

I'm beginning to hate my SP4 and the Dock.

Dock is junk, issues waking up monitors when sleeping its a down to luck as to if they will power back on.

Had issues with USB mouse being slow with heavy USB transfers.

Dock seems to keep an external hard disk on when the Surface is off.

Getting to the stage I want to chuck the SP4 in and go back to a Windows 8.1 Desktop.

I can also max the 8GB of RAM out on occasion.

Failed experiment. :(

Get a bluetooth mouse? Im impressed with my arc touch mouse altho I dont use it as a desktop replacement... (yet!)

know if the SP3 dock is better? (I have SP3)

Also for queries of battery, I get over 6 hours use on an i5 SP3 just browsing.

I do have a bluetooth mouse as well, but there is more choice with wireless USB ones.

I don't remember these issues with the SP3 dock.

The thing is pinging away making the I've found new hardware noise over and over .

Its going back to John Lewis.

SP4 has been by far the worst Surface for stability. But Windows 10 deserves a good portion of the blame.

glad i am not the only one

I haven't really used my SP4 as a full on desktop replacement so I haven't really noticed the issues you've been having. I've been using it more for basic browsing/office and tablet use.

I have noticed the dock still supplying power when it's not connected to the Surface, which does keep me away from having things left plugged in.

Personally I would get rid. Too much hassle, which shouldn't be this problematic.

Ordered a Dell XPS 13, I think I want the rigidity of the keyboard.

Also going to get a tablet have my eye on the Xiaomi Mi Pad 2.

So I just realised the SP4 can't boot from the micro SD slot. Wanted to try Remix OS but couldn't get it to work via the micro SD card way.

Decided to do it the USB way for now just to see how stable it is, and seems the latest Remix update now works with the keyboard cover but... touchscreen still doesn't :p.
