microsoft to make own tablets

my work mate bought at ipad from the states a few months ago and with all the taxes included he saved himself around £200 mate.

32GB iPad 3: $599 US retail price = £384
£384 + 20% VAT = £460
In the UK they retail for £479.

64GB iPad 3 with 3G: $829 US retail price = £532
£532 + 20% VAT = £638
In the UK they retail for £659.

Your mate saved money because he didn't pay VAT or import duties.

which is my point. theirs no way customs can find out if it was bought here or usa.

by definition, every single clothes item u buy abroad should get taxed with vat but guess what?

It never is the case as its hard to tell whether that pair of jeans your wearing was bought from abroad or not

That wasn't the point of the discussion, which was about British retailer prices compared to the US. Your post I responded to also said "with all the taxes included", but ignored UK taxes that should have been paid.

Those American retail prices already include all US taxes and overheads though so why add UK VAT?

No, just a general contempt for people who rip other people off and think they're clever for doing so, pathetic behavior, just live at the level your trade gives you on a reasonable mark up for renting a space goods can be stored at and sold from.

If you want to be wealthy lower your prices and increase your turn over, if you can't achieve this tough get out of business and get another job, stop ripping folk off.

FYI HK has some of the highest property prices in the world but their ethos is turnover rather than margin.

when you leave school and have a job post again.. the ONLY people in a position to RIP the people off are the government...

you can buy from a different shop, you can order online.. only the government can force you to do anything and legally steal your money,,,!

The US prices do not include tax. US retail prices almost never include tax because it is different in every state, tax gets added at checkout.

Our VAT is also significantly higher than the sales tax anywhere in the US.

Any information in the blogosphere about 7inch tablets featuring windows 8?

I haven't seen any mention of it yet. Could be interesting as well as what do you choose, Windows RT or WP8 to put on it. WP8 allows up to 1280x768(720) which would be ok for a 7" tab.

As NuclearWinter said, they don't. You generally need to add at least 7% to those. Online and in shops and restaurants the price advertise does not include tax. It does give the slightly ridiculous issue of $1 shops charging $1.07 for every item...

On the other hand for full disclosure you can bypass the taxes by getting it shipped from out of state to yourself..

Because "state tax" is not vat.

It's their equivalent, But much much lower. And we have a host of other things that need to be added which equated to this on it's own. So it's fair to add vat as well.

Although NuclearWinter did not choose the best comparison. Apple has a closed system where they also sell their own products from their own stores, so can close off the market and charge what they want.

But that's the products all the rip off Britain people keep saying, Yet it's one company who no doubt are over charging. And they are in a unique positions to do so.

Prove it dude, if a mans shop does less than £4k a week he should be taking Less than £400 or get another job, I'm sick of people thinking they can have a wealthy existence selling 5 pc's and a couple of web cams, if your turnovers low live poor or go.

Are you from the UK? Because here the Electronic sector is cut throat and people who actually run stores hardly make any money when they take their costs out. Unless you go to a high end HIFI store where I'm guessing margins are higher everyone else works on bare minimum especially since the boom of internet shopping. Half the time they only make some more profit flogging some over priced cables. One guy who used to sell em told me sometimes they would make £25 on a £500 TV, that is ridiculously low and there is noway he could survive on that.

If a certain shop charges too much don't buy from there, don't sit there and knock someone's way of life or start preaching about how much mark up they should have. You wouldn't like it if they started going round telling you and everyone else to work on minimum wage because you are taking the **** by taking more than that. Sounds more like bitterness and jealousy to me.

Even better than moaning, why don't you start your own shop up it it's so easy and the profit margins are so high? You could undercut everyone and still make loads of money!...

You can do that if you want to, I just take my custom elsewhere and save grands every year, I guess I invented the phrase rip off Britain, watchdog make up their cases and all the goods and services I buy elsewhere are fake. Enjoy your complacency, let folk sell you tabs with a clear profit after overheads of £120.

By elsewhere I mean you mean grey imports then? Or do you buy them in another country and smuggle them in?
